Palladium gates for reproducible quantum dots in silicon [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports 8, 5690, (2018), 2017
We replace the established aluminium gates for the formation of quantum dots in silicon with gates made from palladium. We study the morphology of both aluminium and palladium gates with transmission electron microscopy. The native aluminium oxide is found to be formed all around the aluminium gates, which could lead to the formation of unintentional ...

Specific heat of aluminium-doped superconducting silicon carbide [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The discoveries of superconductivity in heavily boron-doped diamond, silicon and silicon carbide renewed the interest in the ground states of charge-carrier doped wide-gap semiconductors. Recently, aluminium doping in silicon carbide successfully yielded a metallic phase from which at high aluminium concentrations superconductivity emerges.

Plasma cleaning of ITER first mirrors in magnetic field [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
To avoid reflectivity losses in ITER optical diagnostic systems, plasma sputtering of metallic First Mirrors is foreseen in order to remove deposits coming from the main wall (mainly beryllium and tungsten). Therefore plasma cleaning has to work on large mirrors (up to a size of 200*300 mm) and under the influence of strong magnetic fields (several ...

Electron Conditioning of Technical Aluminium Surfaces: Effect on the Secondary Electron Yield [PDF]

open access: yesJ.Vac.Sci.Tech. A23 (2005) 1610, 2004
The effect of electron conditioning on commercially aluminium alloys 1100 and 6063 were investigated. Contrary to the assumption that electron conditioning, if performed long enough, can reduce and stabilize the SEY to low values ($\leq 1.3$, value of many pure elements), the SEY of aluminium did not go lower than 1.8.

Anisotropic behaviour law for sheets used in stamping: A comparative study of steel and aluminium [PDF]

open access: yesComptes Rendus Mecanique 331, 1 (2003) 33-40, 2008
For a car manufacturer, reducing the weight of vehicles is an obvious aim. Replacing steel by aluminium moves towards that goal. Unfortunately, aluminium's stamping numerical simulation results are not yet as reliable as those of steel. Punch-strength and spring-back phenomena are not correctly described. This study on aluminium validates the behaviour

On the Crystallization of Terbium Aluminium Garnet [PDF]

open access: yesCrystal Research and Technology 34 (1999) 615-619, 2008
Attempts to grow terbium aluminium garnet (Tb3Al5O12, TAG) by the Czochralski method lead to crystals of millimeter scale. Larger crystals could not be obtained. DTA measurements within the binary system showed that TAG melts incongruently at 1840 deg. C. The perovskite (TbAlO3, TAP) with a congruent melting point of 1930 deg.

Inhomogeneity of microstructure and mechanical propertiesof 7050-T7651 aluminum alloy thick plate

open access: yesJournal of Aeronautical Materials, 2023
The differences in the microstructure, grain orientation, texture type, aging nano precipitate phase distribution and mechanical properties of 160 mm 7050-T7651 aluminum alloy extra-thick plate at different thickness positions were studied by means of ...

Comparison of Two Intergranular Corrosion Tests on EN AW-6016 Sheet Material

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Two different intergranular corrosion tests were performed on EN AW-6016 sheet material, an ISO 11846:1995-based test with varying solution amounts and acid concentrations, and a standard test of an automotive company (PV1113, VW-Audi).

Life Cycle Cost Assessment of an Existing All-Aluminum Bridge: Comparison of Two Deck Options

open access: yesEngineering Proceedings, 2023
Traditionally, initial material cost has been the governing factor for material selection in structural construction. However, the growing maintenance cost of existing infrastructure has demanded a long-term vision in material selection and in this ...
