Geometry Effects at Atomic-Size Aluminium Contacts [PDF]

open access: yesChem. Phys. Lett. 439, 143 (2007), 2007
We present electronic structure calculations for aluminium nanocontacts. Addressing the neck of the contact, we compare characteristic geometries to investigate the effects of the local aluminium coordination on the electronic states. We find that the Al 3pz states are very sensitive against modifications of the orbital overlap, which has serious ...

Microstructures of Three In-Situ Reinforcements and the Effect on the Tensile Strengths of an Al-Si-Cu-Mg-Ni Alloy

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
In the present paper, the microstructures of three kinds of in-situ reinforcements Al-Ti-C, Al-Ti-B, and Al-Ti-B-C-Ce were deeply investigated using a combination of scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction spectroscopy, and transmission electron ...

Electrochemical extraction of europium from molten fluoride media [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This work concerns the extraction of europium from molten fluoride media. Two electrochemical ways have been examined: (i) the use of a reactive cathode made of copper and (ii) the co-deposition with aluminium on inert electrode, leading to the formation

Friction Stir Welding Parameters Development of AA6061-T6 Extruded Alloy Using a Bobbin Tool

open access: yesEngineering Proceedings, 2023
Bobbin tool friction stir welding (BT-FSW), or self-reacting tool friction stir welding (SR-FSW), refers to a solid-state welding process which that uses two opposing rotating shoulders (top and lower of the workpiece) connected with a fully penetrated ...

Atomistic Mechanisms for the Nucleation of Aluminium Oxide Nanoparticles [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Phys. Chem. A, 2015, 119, 33, 8944, 2017
A predictive model for nanoparticle nucleation has not yet been successfully achieved. Classical nucleation theory fails because the atomistic nature of the seed has to be considered since geometrical structure as well as stoichiometry do not always match the bulk values.

Insights into Poisoning Mechanism of Zr by First Principle Calculation on Adhesion Work and Adsorption Energy between TiB2, Al3Ti, and Al3Zr

open access: yesMetals, 2022
Al-Ti-B intermediate alloys are widely used as grain refiners in aluminum alloys owing to the presence of Al3Ti and TiB2 phases. However, the existence of Zr in aluminum alloy melts often results in coarse grain size, leading to Al-Ti-B failure called Zr

InAs nanowire with epitaxial aluminium as a single-electron transistor with fixed tunnel barriers [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. Applied 6, 054017 (2016), 2016
We report on fabrication of single-electron transistors using InAs nanowires with epitaxial aluminium with fixed tunnel barriers made of aluminium oxide. The devices exhibit a hard superconducting gap induced by the proximized aluminium cover shell and they behave as metallic single-electron transistors.

Applications solution using the system 2000 graphite furnace [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
In patients with chronic renal failure, on treatment with haemodialysis, clinical symptoms may develop, which are associated with abnormally high levels of aluminium in the blood and tissues. Such patients are exposed to aluminium via the dialysate fluid,

The effect of atomic structure on the electrical response of aluminium oxide tunnel junctions [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. Research 2, 013110 (2020), 2019
Many nanoelectronic devices rely on thin dielectric barriers through which electrons tunnel. For instance, aluminium oxide barriers are used as Josephson junctions in superconducting electronics. The reproducibility and drift of circuit parameters in these junctions are affected by the uniformity, morphology, and composition of the oxide barriers.
