Pyramidal Structures on Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia after High Temperature Exposure at 1500°C: New Features on an Old Material

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

Towards Defect Phase Diagrams: From Research Data Management to Automated Workflows

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A research data management infrastructure is presented for the systematic integration of heterogeneous experimental and simulation data required for defect phase diagrams. The approach combines openBIS with a companion application for large‐object storage, automated metadata extraction, provenance tracking and federated data access, thereby supporting ...

Microstructure modelling of hot deformation of Al–1%Mg alloy

open access: yes, 2009
This study presents the application of the finite elementmethod and intelligent systems techniques to the prediction of microstructural mapping for aluminium alloys. Here, the material within each finite element is defined using a hybrid model.

Characterisation of the cold metal transfer (CMT) process and its application for low dilution cladding [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The process characteristics of the synergic cold metal transfer (CMT) process have been examined for welding aluminium alloy. Utilising a simple backlighting system and through the arc monitoring the droplet transfer modes were identified.

Dielectric Barrier Discharge Plasma Deoxidation of Natively Oxide Layer of Copper Powders in a Fluidized Bed

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This paper presents a novel approach to reducing oxide layers on metal powders using low‐temperature hydrogen dielectric barrier discharge plasmas at atmospheric pressure. Unlike conventional hydrogen‐plasma reductions, the powders do not contact the plasma directly.

Time‐Dependent Oxidation and Scale Evolution of a Wrought Co/Ni‐Based Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows how a new wrought Co/Ni‐based superalloy resists oxidation at 800 ∘$^\circ$C. The oxide scale changes from rough, fast‐growing spinel to a dense, protective chromia–alumina layer. Atom probe analysis reveals tiny refractory‐rich bubbles at the interface that mark the transition to long‐term, diffusion‐controlled protection ...

Affecting the Properties of Copper–Graphene Electroconductive Composite by Severe Plastic Deformation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Copper‐based composites enhanced with carbon feature convenient mechanical properties and favorable electric conductivity. Processing via deformation and thermomechanical treatments can introduce advantageous microstructures further enhancing their performance. Herein, copper–graphene powder‐based composites are directly consolidated via rotary swaging

Influence of the Anodic Oxidation Treatment on the Corrosion Behaviour of Aluminium and Aluminium Alloys

open access: yesThe Annals of “Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati. Fascicle IX, Metallurgy and Materials Science, 2015
This paper deals with the effect of anodic oxidation treatment on the corrosion behaviour of 6061 aluminium alloy in natural sea water. Anodic oxidation treatment leads to the formation of an amorphous oxide layer on the top surface of 6061 aluminium ...

ALUMINIUM LOOS IN THE PROCESS OF Ti-6Al-7Nb SMELTING

open access: yesActa Metallurgica Slovaca, 2013
In the paper, results of experimental smelting of the Ti-6Al-7Nb alloy in a vacuum induction furnace are presented. The experiments were performed at 5-1000 Pa and 1973-2023 K.

Hydrogen‐Assisted Fracture of Iron‐Based Fe–Ni–Al Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Principal relations and fracture mechanisms of single‐phase and precipitate‐strengthened Fe–Ni–Al alloys subjected to prior electrochemical hydrogen charging are identified. The mechanisms of hydrogen effect on strength and microhardness are discussed, including hydrogen‐induced increase in microhardness and the role of hydrogen in fracture behavior ...
