The presented study focuses on the fracture behaviour of carbon‐bonded magnesia MgO–C refractories, where environmentally friendly fructose, collagen and lignin serve as temporary binding agents. The partial substitution of the source material with recycled MgO–C reduces the fracture resistance, which can be counteracted by the additional introduction ...

The effects of cyclic-strengthening interrupted aging on the microstructure evolution and stress corrosion resistance of aluminum alloy [PDF]
The stress corrosion is likely to occur in high-strength aluminium alloys especially in corrosive environments, which is a key factor affecting the service safety of aluminium alloy components.

Investigation of electrorefining of metallic alloy fuel onto solid Al cathodes [PDF]
This work concerned the electrorefining of UZr and UPuZr alloys on a solid aluminium cathode, in the LiCl-KCl eutectic melt containing U3+, Pu3+, Np3+, Zr2+ or Zr 4+, Am3+, Nd3+, Y3+, Ce3+ and Gd3+ chlorides. During constant current electrolyses, the use

Effect of Laser Deoxidation on Adhesive‐Bonded Aluminum in an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere
This study investigates laser ablation of aluminum under oxygen‐free conditions. The goal is to produce oxide‐free substrates that enable improved adhesive bonding with epoxy. Optimized laser parameters (90% overlap, 300 µJ) combined with oxide‐free substrates result in the highest tensile strength of the adhesive bond.

Mechanisms of High Temperature Degradation of Thermal Barrier Coatings. [PDF]
Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) are crucial for increasing the turbine inlet temperature (and hence efficiency) of gas turbine engines. The thesis describes PhD research aimed at improving understanding of the thermal cycling failure mechanisms of ...

Four‐point bending tests are conducted in an argon atmosphere on commercial MgO‐C brick grades with and without MgO‐C recyclate from room temperature up to 1300 °C. No detrimental effect of the MgO‐C recyclates on bending strength is found. Instead, a decisive influence of the total carbon content is observed, with lower total carbon contents ...

Study of defect formation in Al 7050 alloys [PDF]
The Al 7050 alloy is an Al-Zn-Mg-Cu-Zr alloy having good mechanical properties. This alloy has been developed in order to overcome stress corrosion cracking problems that characterise 7xxx Al alloys.

A combined finite element and phase‐field approach predicts the evolution of microstructure during the directional solidification of Ni‐based superalloys. The model reveals how withdrawal rate, temperature gradient, and wall thickness control the dendrite spacing, highlighting the strong effect of surface regions in thin sections where dendrite growth ...
