Aluminum

open access: yes, 2022
Aluminum is the most abundant metal in the earth's crust. It occurs naturally in its oxidized state in a variety of sedimentary rocks such as bauxite. Alumina (Al2O3) is itself a material with good mechanical, chemical and thermal qualities, used traditionally in the production of ceramics. Its isomorphic form, beta-alumina, became a promising material

Theoretical Study of Hydrogenated Tetrahedral Aluminum Clusters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We report on the structures of aluminum hydrides derived from a tetrahedral aluminum Al4 cluster using ab initio quantum chemical calculation. Our calculation of binding energies of the aluminum hydrides reveals that stability of these hydrides increases

Investigation of the Frozen Bath Layer under Cold Anodes

open access: yesMetals, 2017
Hall-Héroult cell stability is highly affected by anode changing operations. Upon the insertion of a cold anode in the cell, a layer of molten cryolite freezes under the anode. The thickness, microstructure, and chemical composition of this layer vary as

Preparation of Aluminum Nitride/Aluminum Composites by Nitridation of Aluminum

open access: yesJournal of the Ceramic Society of Japan, 1993
AlN/Al composites were prepared by the nitridation of Al-MgO (0-7.5wt%) powder compacts at 1100-1400°C. The dense composite layer grew outward from the bottom surface of the powder compact at 1250-1400°C. The conversion of Al to AlN and the thickness of the composite increased with increasing content of MgO, reaction temperature and time.

Optimal scheduling model of microgrid based on improved dung beetle optimization algorithm

open access: yesSystems Science & Control Engineering
In view of the strong uncertainty and intermittency of distributed power sources in microgrids and the shortcomings of the traditional dung beetle optimizer (DBO) algorithm with slow convergence, poor robustness and ease of falling into a local optimum ...

Aluminum as a toxicant

open access: yesToxicology and Industrial Health, 2002
Although aluminum is the most abundant metal in nature, it has no known biological function. However, it is known that there is a causal role for aluminum in dialysis encephalopathy, microcytic anemia, and osteomalacia. Aluminum has also been proposed to play a role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) even though this issue is ...
