Nanotip Ambient Ionization Mass Spectrometry

Analytical Chemistry, 2016
A method called nanotip ambient ionization mass spectrometry (NAIMS) is described, which applies high voltage between a tungsten nanotip and a metal plate to generate a plasma in which ionized analytes on the surface of the metal plate are directed to the inlet and analyzed by a mass spectrometer. The dependence of signal intensity is investigated as a

Forensic applications of ambient ionization mass spectrometry

Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, 2009
This review highlights and critically assesses forensic applications in the developing field of ambient ionization mass spectrometry. Ambient ionization methods permit the ionization of samples outside the mass spectrometer in the ordinary atmosphere, with minimal sample preparation.

Detection of drugs in urine by ambient direct ionization mass spectrometry

Chinese Journal of Chromatography, 2022
According to the Report of Drug Situation in China (2020), the growth rate of the number of drug abusers in China has decreased, but the number of drug abusers is still large. An efficient screening method is necessary for controlling drug abuse. As an important type of biological sample, urine is widely used for the rapid screening of drug addicts ...

Scanning probe electrospray ionization for ambient mass spectrometry

Rapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, 2012
RATIONALE Ambient sampling and ionization techniques have been attracting attention in imaging mass spectrometry because they offer the advantage of rapid testing. We have developed a method which exploits the fluid motion of charged solvents for both local sampling and ionization with a single vibrating ...

Microplasma Discharge Ionization Source for Ambient Mass Spectrometry

Analytical Chemistry, 2009
In this paper, we demonstrate the first use of a microplasma ionization source for ambient mass spectrometry. This device is a robust, easy-to-operate microhollow discharge that enables ambient direct analysis of gaseous, liquid, and solid-phase samples with minimum requirements in terms of operating power and high purity gas consumption.

Pocket-Size “MasSpec Pointer” for Ambient Ionization Mass Spectrometry

Analytical Chemistry, 2021
Current ambient ionization sources for mass spectrometry (MS) are typically connected to gas cylinders, high-voltage supply, injection pump, and other accessory equipment, which hinder the popularization of MS in the field of on-site detection. Here, we developed a wireless pocket-size "MasSpec Pointer" (weights 65 g) based on arc discharge powered by ...

Ambient Ionization Mass Spectrometry Measurement of Aminotransferase Activity

Journal of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry, 2017
A change in enzyme activity has been used as a clinical biomarker for diagnosis and is useful in evaluating patient prognosis. Current laboratory measurements of enzyme activity involve multi-step derivatization of the reaction products followed by quantitative analysis of these derivatives.

An Introduction to Ambient Ionization Mass Spectrometry

2014
Ambient ionization/sampling mass spectrometry (or “ambient mass spectrometry” for short) is a subdiscipline of mass spectrometry that enables direct, high-throughput, surface analysis of native samples. Two flagship ambient mass spectrometry techniques: direct analysis in real time (DART) and desorption electrospray ionization (DESI) have not only ...

Thermal desorption ambient ionization mass spectrometry for emergency toxicology

Mass Spectrometry Reviews, 2022
AbstractIn the emergency department, it is important to rapidly identify the toxic substances that have led to acute poisoning because different toxicants or toxins cause poisoning through different mechanisms, requiring disparate therapeutic strategies and precautions against contraindicating actions, and diverse directions of clinical course ...
