Ambient noise tomography across the southern Alaskan Cordillera
AbstractI present the results of an extensive data mining effort integrating 197 permanent and temporary seismic stations into a Rayleigh wave ambient noise study across southern Alaska and westernmost Canada. Principal observations of my tomography model are largely consistent with mapped geology features and previous geophysical studies while ...

Ambient seismic noise tomography of the Antarctic continent
The lithosphere of Antarctica reacts to both the stress variations due to the dynamics of the mantle and the variation of the glacial load due to changes in climate. These two factors act on the dynamics of the glacial mass, on the evolution of the continent's topography and on the plate seismicity.

Pilot ambient noise tomography study for mineral exploration potential [PDF]
This report describes the analysis of ambient vibration data collected from 31 sites in Marathon, ON, Canada, using 31 vertical component geophones (Figure 1). The Eastern Gabbro Suite comprises the Marathon deposits of platinum group metals and copper.

Ambient seismic noise tomography at Ekofisk
GEOPHYSICS, 2015We have studied an approximately 40-hr recording from the Life of Field Seismic array installed over Ekofisk field to assess whether the recorded ambient seismic energy was suitable for passive seismic surface-wave interferometry. Passive seismic interferometry aims to retrieve virtual seismic sources by crosscorrelation.

Geotechnical site characterization with 3D ambient noise tomography
GEOPHYSICS, 2023We develop a new 3D ambient noise tomography (3D ANT) method for geotechnical site characterization. It requires recording ambient noise fields using a 2D surface array of geophones, from which experimental crosscorrelation functions (CCFs) are then extracted and directly inverted to obtain an S-wave velocity ([Formula: see text]) structure.

Ambient Noise Tomography in Central‐South Mongolia
Chinese Journal of Geophysics, 2015AbstractRelying on cooperation projects in Mongolia, “Observation and modeling on the geomagnetic, gravitational field and deep structure in the Far East Areas”, we got dense seismic array data in the area for the first time. By using the vertical component of continuous data, recorded by 69 broadband seismic stations from Aug. 2011 to Jul.

Road sinkhole detection with 2D ambient noise tomography
GEOPHYSICS, 2021Seismic methods are often used for detection of precollapsed sinkholes (voids) under roadways for remediation to minimize risks to the safety of the traveling public. Although active-source seismic methods can provide accurate subsurface profiles, they require closing the traffic flow for hours during testing and may potentially cause sinkhole ...
