Ambient temperature perception in plants

Current Opinion in Plant Biology, 2005
Since plants are sessile they must be able to sense and rapidly respond to changes in ambient temperature. Key aspects of plant development, including the transition to flowering and the circadian clock, have important inputs from ambient temperature. In the model system Arabidopsis thaliana, molecular candidates for mediating these roles have recently

Sunburn and ambient temperature

British Journal of Dermatology, 2017
On days during the summer months when high temperatures are expected, weather forecasters frequently warn about the dangers of UV and high UV indices. It is not surprising, therefore, that it is a common belief that high ambient air temperatures are a major risk factor for burning.

Ambient Temperature Sodium–Sulfur Batteries

Small, 2015
Ambient‐ or room‐temperature sodium–sulfur batteries (RT Na–S) are gaining much attention as a low‐cost option for large‐scale electrical energy storage applications. However, their adoption is hampered by severe challenges. This concept paper summarizes first the operating principles, history, recent progress, and challenges of RT Na–S battery ...

Determining Ambient Water Temperatures

Journal of the Hydraulics Division, 1975
Regulations concerning discharge of condenser cooling water from power plants frequently refer to temperature rises above ambient temperature. A method to determine ambient temperature from statistical analysis of preoperational temperature records and the uncertainty of determining ambient temperature expressed in confidence limits is reviewed in ...

Effect of ambient temperature on learning

Physiology & Behavior, 1982
Abstract After a three week exposure at 34, 25 or 10°C, three strains of mice (C57BL/6, BALB/c and A/J) underwent a conventional active two-way avoidance task. As compared to 25°C of ambient temperature, acquisition on the first day was severely impaired in the three strains at 34°C and in the C57BL/6, and A/J mice at 10°C.

Ambient temperature observations

Journal of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1923
AMBIENT temperature according to rule 2300 of the A. I. E. E. Standards, “is to be measured by means of several thermometers placed at different points around and half way up the machine at a distance of one to two meters or three to six feet.” “The value to be adopted for the ambient temperature during a test, is the mean of the readings of the ...
