Single‐Chromophore Homojunction Organic Solar Cells: A Path to Simplicity and Efficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This perspective discusses how the intrinsic optoelectronic properties of organic semiconductors, their molecular packing in the solid‐state, and internal energetic gradients within a device can enable free‐charge carrier generation in homojunction organic solar cells.

Excitation of radially propagating electrostatic shear Alfvén wave during the formation of ambipolar radial electric field in a stochastic magnetic field

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2023
A radially propagating electrostatic shear Alfvén wave (ωH mode) is found during the formation of ambipolar radial electric field in a magnetic stochastic layer through gyrokinetic simulation.

Near-infrared-II balanced ambipolar phototransistors realized by the optimized planar-heterojunction channel layer and charge-transfer-complex photosensitive layer

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2023
Ambipolar organic phototransistors (OPTs) operating in the near-infrared II (NIR-II) were successfully fabricated by using an organic planar-heterojunction channel layer and an organic–inorganic charge-transfer-complex (CTC) photosensitive layer.

Rethinking Charge Transport and Recombination in Donor‐Diluted Organic Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Organic solar cells with 1–45% PM6 content in Y12 were studied to link structure and charge dynamics to performance. The conductivity follows a 3D percolation model without a sharp threshold. Donor dilution preserves the photogeneration yield, but limits the fill factor due to transport resistance losses.

Large‐Scale Determination of Frontier Orbital Energies of Disordered Small‐Molecule Organic Semiconductors Using Exciplex Emission Spectra

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Accurately knowing the frontier orbital energies of the structurally disordered small‐molecule organic semiconductors that are used in optoelectronic devices such as organic light‐emitting diodes is required to rationally improve their performance. Here, we show that these energies can be deduced with a large accuracy from the peak energies of
