Amine Oxidases and Tumors

NeuroToxicology, 2004
The physiological function in living organisms of amine oxidases, is not completely established but is certainly related to the biogenic amines metabolism and therefore involved in essential processes such as the cell growth and differentiation. A correlation between degree of tumor malignancy and level of AO activity has been reported.

Connective tissue amine oxidase. I. Purification of bovine aorta amine oxidase and its comparison with plasma amine oxidase

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Enzymology, 1971
Abstract 1. 1. Bovine plasma and aorta amine oxidase (amine: O 2 oxidoreductase (deaminating), EC 1.4.3.4) were purified approx. 60- and 170-fold, respectively. The aorta enzyme appeared to be non-mitochondrial, did not catalyze the oxidation of common short chain diamines and, in general, possessed properties previously described for plasma ...

On an Amine Oxidase in Rabbit's Liver

Acta Physiologica Scandinavica, 1947
Summary. The paper reports the results of an investigation of the enzyme in rabbit's liver that catalyzes the oxidation of mescaline. Another substrate for this enzyme is found. By inhibition experiments it is shown that the enzyme is in all probability structurally different from the mono amine oxidase.

Copper in Plasma Amine Oxidase

Nature, 1963
CRYSTALLINE beef plasma amine oxidase has been characterized as a cupric-pyridoxal phosphate enzyme1–4. However, Gorkin has reported that the enzyme is a zinc protein and that there is a direct proportionality between zinc content and specific activity5.

Plant copper-amine oxidases

Phytochemistry, 1995
In this review, the widely distributed plant copper-amine oxidases are described. The purification procedures, molecular features, substrate specificities, inhibitors, the stoichiometry of the catalysed reaction, spectroscopic features, the prosthetic groups and reaction mechanisms, are all reviewed.

Amine oxidases in apoptosis and cancer

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Reviews on Cancer, 2006
Amine oxidases, the major enzymes of biogenic amines metabolism, are considered to be biological regulators, especially for cell growth and differentiation. A primary involvement of amine oxidases in cancer growth inhibition and progression, especially by means of aldehydes, H(2)O(2) and other reactive oxygen species, the amine oxidase-mediated ...

Structure and Function of Amine Oxidases

1982
Amine oxidases are enzymes widely distributed among living organisms. They catalyze the oxidative deamination of many biologically important amines with the formation of the corresponding aldehyde, hydrogen peroxide and ammonia according to the equation RCH2NH2 + O2 + H2O → RCHO + H2O2 ...

Circular Dichroism Study of Bovine Plasma Amine Oxidase, a Cu-Amine Oxidase

1976
Bovine plasma amine oxidase enzyme is a copper amine oxidase which has a molecular weight of about 170,000 (1) and contains 2 gm atoms of copper per mole of protein (2). It is an unusual copper protein since it is pink in color and the apoenzyme is also colored (3).
