System y+L: the broad scope and cation modulated amino acid transporter
The properties are discussed of system y+L, a broad scope amino acid transporter which was first identified in human erythrocytes. System y+L exhibits two distinctive properties: (a) it can bind and translocate cationic and neutral amino acids, and (b) its specificity varies depending on the ionic composition of the medium.

The amino acid transport system y + L/4F2hc is a heteromultimeric complex
4F2hc is an almost ubiquitous transmembrane protein in mammalian cells; upon expression in Xenopus laevis oocytes, it induces amino acid transport with characteristics of system y + L.

Function of SLC7A7 in T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
Background/Aims: Y+LAT1 protein, encoded by the SLC7A7 gene (a member of the SLC7 family), forms the cationic amino acid transport system y+L (system y+L). This system transports cationic amino acids such as arginine and lysine out of the cell. Arginine,

Analysis of LPI-causing mutations on y+LAT1 function and localization
Background y+LAT1, encoded by SCL7A7, is the protein mutated in Lysinuric Protein Intolerance (LPI), a rare metabolic disease caused by a defective cationic amino acid (CAA, arginine, lysine, ornithine) transport at the basolateral membrane of intestinal

Stimulation of system y(+)-like amino acid transport by the heavy chain of human 4F2 surface antigen in Xenopus laevis oocytes. [PDF]
A kidney cortex cDNA clone (rBAT) has recently been isolated, which upon in vitro transcription and capping complementary RNA (cRNA) and injection into Xenopus laevis oocytes induces a system b0,(+)-like amino acid transport activity. This cDNA encodes a type II membrane glycoprotein that shows significant homology to another type II membrane ...

Uptake of Manganese from the Manganese-Lysine Complex in Primary Chicken Intestinal Epithelial Cells
Organic manganese (Mn) sources can replace inorganic Mn as dietary Mn supplements in poultry. To compare the uptake of Mn from the Mn-lysine complex (MnLys) and MnSO4, we first established the primary chicken intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) model and ...

Angiotensin II Stimulates System y+ and Cationic Amino Acid Transporter Gene Expression in Cultured Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells [PDF]
The effect of angiotensin II (Ang II) on the transport of cationic amino acids has been examined in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) isolated from rat aortae. Ang II stimulated the uptake rates of radiolabeled arginine and lysine in a time- and concentration-dependent manner.

Lysinuric protein intolerance (LPI) is a recessively inherited aminoaciduria caused by mutations of SLC7A7, the gene encoding y+LAT1 light chain of system y+L for cationic amino acid transport. The pathogenesis of LPI is still unknown.

Superficial similarities led us to extend our designation for the transport of the plasma membrane for cationic amino acids, y+, to the lysosomal system also serving for such amino acids. Further study on the purified lysosomes of human skin fibroblasts leads us now to redesignate the lysosomal system as c (for cationic), rather than y+, to emphasize ...
