Asymmetric synthesis of unnatural L-amino acids using thermophilic aromatic L-amino acid transaminase

open access: yes, 2006
Aromatic L-amino acid transaminase is an enzyme that is able to transfer the amino group from L-glutamate to unnatural aromatic a-keto acids to generate alpha-ketog luta rate and unnatural aromatic L-amino acids, respectively. Enrichment culture was used

Localizable Fluorescent Metal Ion Indicators With Tunable Colors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A modular platform enables the generation of fluorescent metal ion indicators with tunable emission colors and precise subcellular localization. Conjugation to self‐labeling proteins yields bright, color‐tunable potassium probes that permit wash‐free live‐cell imaging, revealing dynamic potassium efflux in stimulated neurons.

Dynamic Regulation of Supramolecular Chirality in an Amphiphilic Dimeric Macrocycle Through Azobenzene‐Based Photoisomerization

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A stimuli‐responsive supramolecular system has been rationally designed enabling hierarchical control over supramolecular handedness. This hybrid architecture retains orthogonal host‐guest properties and displays unique amphiphilicity‐directed chiral self‐assembly.

Selective Recognition of Aromatic Amino Acids by a Molecular Cleft in Water

open access: yes
The development of water-soluble hosts for the selective recognition of aromatic amino acids is highly desirable and may serve as a tool to facilitate drug discovery and enable fabrication of sensors for point-of-care monitoring in the context of ...

Multiscale Architecture and Mechanics of the Cell Nucleus: Implications for Disease, Bioengineering and Nanomedicine

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nuclear mechanical properties are inherently scale‐dependent, arising from a hierarchical architecture that spans DNA, chromatin, the nuclear envelope, and condensates. Experimental techniques and theoretical models are integrated into a cohesive multiscale framework linking nanoscale structural features to organelle‐level mechanical behavior.

A Cationic Supramolecule With Potent Antifungal Activity, Single‐Species Selectivity, and Strong Synergy With Echinocandins

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We introduce a new membrane‐active antifungal design, Gua‐SMACS‐16, that exhibits high potency and single‐species selectivity for C. tropicalis while sparing other close species in the Candida genus. Moreover, when combining with caspofungin, a clinical antifungal drug inhibiting 1,3‐β‐glucan synthase, they exhibit ultra‐strong synergy across a panel ...
