Mesomorphic amino sugars

Liquid Crystals, 1994
Abstract New liquid crystalline compounds have been prepared from glucosamine and 6-amino-6-deoxy-hexopyranoses. The monoalkylated carbohydrates show smectic phases. The influence of the amino group on the clearing temperatures is minor. The salts of the cyclic amines can form smectic or discotic mesophases.

Phenyloxazoline derivatives of amino-sugars

Journal of the Chemical Society, Perkin Transactions 1, 1972
The preparation and borohydride reduction of 2,3-dideoxy-5,6-O-isopropylidene-2′-phenyl-D-allofuranoso-[2,3-d]-Δ2′-oxazoline (XXI) are described. The reduction product was a derivative of 2-amino-2-deoxy-D-allitol, indicating that no isomerisation of the sugar system in compound (XXI) had occurred during its formation and reduction.

Amino sugar metabolism in erythrocytes

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1968
Abstract The ability of rabbit erythrocytes to synthesize glucosamine and convert it to UDP-N-acetylglucosamine (UDP-GlcNAc) has been measured in mature erythrocytes, in reticulocytes, and in the immature bone marrow erythroid cells. The cells were incubated with either [14C]fructose which can be converted via fructose 6-phosphate (Fru-6-P) to ...

Pitfalls in the 3, 5-dinitrosalicylic acid DNS assay for the reducing sugars: Interference of furfural and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural.

International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 2020
Transformation of renewable biomass into value-added chemicals and biofuels has evolved to be a vital field of research in recent years. Accurate estimation of reducing sugars post pretreatment of biomass has been very inconsistent.

Fluorometric analysis of amino sugars and derivatized neutral sugars

Analytical Biochemistry, 1982
Abstract A rapid and sensitive procedure for the analysis of neutral and amino sugars is presented. Neutral sugars are separated after conversion to the corresponding glycamines, while the amino sugars are analyzed without modification, using an automatic amino acid analyzer and fluorometric detection.

Heterocyclic amino sugar derivatives

Carbohydrate Research, 1973
Abstract Benzyl 2-deoxy-α- d -gulopyranosido[2,3:4′,5′]-2′-oxazolidinone ( 10 ) was synthesized from benzyl 3- O -acetyl-2-[(benzyloxycarbonyl)amino]-2-deoxy-α- d -glucopyranoside ( 1 ) via the 4- O -methylsulfonyl-6- O -trityl derivative and 3,4-anhydro-α- d -galactopyranoside derivatives.
