Abstract Menopause increases the risk of hypertension in women, yet the factors contributing to this important change remain unclear. Because early life stress has persistent and sex‐specific consequences on health, we hypothesized that ageing reveals the latent effects of neonatal maternal separation (NMS) on cardiovascular homeostasis in female rats.

Functionalization of amorphous nitrogenated carbon thin film electrodes for improved detection of cadmium vs. copper cations [PDF]
International audienceThe specificity of a sensor relative to specific cations can be modified by functionalization of amorphous nitrogenated carbon thin film (a-C:Nx) electrodes. This surface modification was performed through the reduction of diazonium

Exopolymeric substances (EPS) produced in the photic zone and surface sediments sequester calcium. Below the sediment surface, heterotrophic bacteria degrade EPS, releasing calcium resulting in carbonate precipitation. This process, which continues for millennia deep in the core, is an important sink for atmospheric carbon dioxide.
