Effects of hydrocortisone and adrenalectomy on uptake of α-aminoisobutyric acid

American Journal of Physiology-Legacy Content, 1961
Effects of adrenalectomy and hydrocortisone injection on distribution of α-aminoisobutyric acid (AIB) were measured in tissues of 16 groups of mice. Administration of hydrocortisone resulted in uniformly increased uptake of AIB by the liver and, less consistently, decreased uptake by lymphoid tissues and increased excretion by the kidneys. Experiments

Transport of 2-aminoisobutyric acid in cultured endothelial cells

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 1994
Conflicting reports exist concerning the presence of a Na(+)-coupled amino acid transport system in cultured endothelial cells. We have employed a non-metabolizable analog, 2-aminoisobutyric acid (AIB), to investigate the activity of Na(+)-dependent amino acid transport in cultured human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC).

Bradykinin analogs containing α-aminoisobutyric acid (Aib)

Peptides, 1980
All seven possible bradykinin (BK) analogs contained Aib in place of proline have been synthesized by the solid phase method and assayed for in vitro myotropic activity on the guinea pig ileum and rat uterus, and in vivo on the rat blood pressure, both in intravenous and intra-aortic administration. [Aib(2,3)]-BK, [Aib(2,7)]-BK, and [Aib(2,3,7)]-BK had

Occurrence of β-Aminoisobutyric Acid in Mytilus edulis

Science, 1959
β-Aminoisobutyric acid was isolated from organ extracts of Mytilus edulis. Ion-exchange resins and large-scale paper chromatography were used to isolate minute quantities of the compound. β-Aminoisobutyric acid was identified by paper chromatography in several solvents and by conversion to DNP-β-aminoisobutyric acid

Phonon dispersion in poly(α-aminoisobutyric acid)

Polymer, 1995
The present work is a study of phonons and their dispersion in Poly (α-aminoisobutyric acid), which is an example of a polyamino acid having 3 10 helical conformation. It has been used as a model to carry out conformational studies on proteins and polypeptides.

The quantitation of β-aminoisobutyric acid in urine by mass fragmentography

Clinica Chimica Acta, 1973
Abstract A specific, rapid and sensitive method for the quantitation of β-aminoisobutyric acid in urine is described. The method is based on the analysis by quadrupole mass fragmentography of its N-TFA-O-n-butyl derivative using α-amino octanoic acid as an internal standard.

Uptake of α-aminoisobutyric acid in placental slices at term

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1967
Abstract Protein synthesis in the placenta has not been extensively studied despite evidence for the presence of all the mechanisms for active formation. The present study characterizes the amino acid uptake in term placental slices from normal pregnancies using the model amino acid, α-aminoisobutyric acid.

Synthesis of [11C-methyl]-α-aminoisobutyric acid (AIB)

Nuclear Medicine and Biology, 1996
Alpha-aminoisobutyric acid (AIB) labeled with the cyclotron-produced, positron-emitting radionuclide 11C has been synthesized with the label in the alpha-methyl group. Our previously published synthesis of [11C] AIB in the carboxyl position from [11C] HCN requires a rigorous quality assurance program to ensure that the concentration of cyanide in the ...

Hydrophobic channels in crystals of an α-aminoisobutyric acid pentapeptide

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1981
Abstract The crystal structure of the pentapeptide p-toluene-sulfonyl-(α-aminoisobutyryl) 5 -methyl ester (Tosyl-(Aib) 5 -OMe) has been determined in the space group P I . Pentapeptide molecules are folded in the 3 10 helical conformation and packed together, so as to yield a hydrophobic channel with a minimim diameter of 5.2 A.
