The thermal decomposition of ammonia borane

Thermochimica Acta, 1978
Abstract The thermal decomposition of ammonia-borane has been studied by thermogravimetry, differential thermal analysis, and decomposition product measurements. Vigorous decomposition with hydrogen evolution begins near 120°C and proceeds in stages as the temperature is increased to 200°C leaving a white residue.

Room-Temperature Structure of Ammonia Borane

Australian Journal of Chemistry, 2007
Structural determinations of ammonia borane (BH3NH3) have been carried out for the orthorhombic (at 90 K) and tetragonal (at 298 K) modifications using single-crystal X-ray data. The orthorhombic structure (space group Pmn21) agreed with a previously published neutron determination, while the tetragonal structure (I4mm) exhibited halos of hydrogen ...

Metal‐Free Ammonia–Borane Dehydrogenation Catalyzed by a Bis(borane) Lewis Acid

Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 2015
AbstractThe storage of energy in a safe and environmentally benign way is one of the main challenges of today’s society. Ammonia–borane (AB=NH3BH3) has been proposed as a possible candidate for the chemical storage of hydrogen. However, the efficient release of hydrogen is still an active field of research.

Sheldon Shore, Small Boranes, and Ammonia

Journal of Chemical Education, 1997
Although trimethylamine [(CH3)3N] and ammonia [H3N] are both recognized as classic Lewis bases, their reactions with the classic Lewis acid borane [BH3 from diborane] was very different. Trimethylamine gave the expected trimethylamine borane [(CH3)3NBH3] while ammonia gave a product called "the diammoniate of diborane." Its structure was shown to be ...
