Controversies about Extended-Spectrum and AmpC Beta-Lactamases [PDF]

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2001
Many clinical laboratories have problems detecting extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) and plasmid-mediated AmpC beta-lactamases. Confusion exists about the importance of these resistance mechanisms, optimal test methods, and appropriate reporting conventions.

All Nanozyme‐Based Cascade Reactions for Biomedical Applications: from Self‐Cascading Nanozyme to Immobilized Cascade Nanozyme

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 6, 30 January 2026.
This review introduces the development and classification of all‐nanozyme cascade reaction systems, highlighting mechanistic insights and research methods for understanding catalytic features and design principles. It provides detailed classifications, surveys recent applications in biosensing and therapy, and discusses the challenges that all‐nanozyme

Emerging Coproduction of AmpC Beta-lactamase in Extended-spectrum Beta-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli Clinical Isolates in Indonesia

open access: yesBiomolecular and Health Science Journal
Introduction: Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) and AmpC beta-lactamase (AmpC-BL) in Enterobacteriaceae are a global threat. Coproduction of AmpC-BL and ESBL reduces therapeutic options, with more resistance against cephamycin and beta-lactamase ...

Extended-Spectrum-β-Lactamase, AmpC, and Carbapenemase Issues [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 2010
Optimal use of microbiology laboratories is essential to combat the spread of multiply antibiotic-resistant pathogens. This is vital for patient care, as advocated by Jarvis in stressing the importance of active detection and isolation to control methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and other resistant hospital-acquired pathogens (17).

Hypothyroidism is associated with higher healthcare utilisation and higher need for blood transfusion after primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in patients with osteoarthritis: A National Inpatient Sample analysis

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Orthopaedics, Volume 13, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Purpose To examine the association of hypothyroidism with primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA) outcomes in adults with primary underlying diagnosis of osteoarthritis (OA). Methods We identified a prospective cohort of patients in the 2016–2020 national inpatient sample (NIS) that received primary TKA with an underlying diagnosis of OA ...

Gram-Negative Uropathogens in Diabetic Patients: A Study of Ampicillinase Cephalosporinase, Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamases, and Metallo Beta-Lactamases Producing Phenotypes

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy and Bioallied Sciences
Aim: This study aimed to identify Gram-negative uropathogens (GN-UP)-producing extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBL), metallo-beta-lactamases (MBL), and AmpC enzymes in diabetic patients and to analyze their antibiotic resistance profiles.

Necrotizing Pneumonia Caused by PVL‐Negative Methicillin‐Susceptible Staphylococcus aureus Complicated by Refractory Pneumothorax: A Case Report

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 1, January 2026.
Here we report a case of PVL‐negative MSSA necrotizing pneumonia in a previously healthy man that rapidly progressed to cavitary lesions and refractory pneumothorax. Despite its improvement after clindamycin‐based therapy, the patient experienced recurrent pneumothorax and chronic respiratory failure.

Correlation between the mutation rates for ampC derepression and species or ampC genotypes in Enterobacter cloacae complex. [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Microbiol
Abstract Background In this study, we investigated the correlation between the mutation rates for ampC derepression and species or ampC genotypes in Enterobacter cloacae complex (ECC) susceptible to ceftriaxone. Non-duplicate ceftriaxone-sensitive ECC isolates (90) were obtained from September 2021 to January 2023 at ...

In Vivo Resistance to Ceftolozane/Tazobactam in Pseudomonas aeruginosa Arising by AmpC- and Non-AmpC-Mediated Pathways

open access: yesCase Reports in Infectious Diseases, 2018
Two pairs of ceftolozane/tazobactam susceptible/resistant P. aeruginosa were isolated from 2 patients after exposure to β-lactams. The genetic basis of ceftolozane/tazobactam resistance was evaluated, and β-lactam-resistant mechanisms were assessed by phenotypic assays. Whole genome sequencing identified mutations in AmpC including the mutation (V213A)
