High‐Density E. Coli Cultivation Arrays for Combinatorial Drug Testing With Subsequent Lipid Profiling by MALDI‐MS

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
High‐throughput antibiotic cross‐gradient assays on microdroplet arrays. A multichannel printhead together with five pressure regulators forms droplet arrays of up to 20 832 droplets within 25 minutes. Each droplet contains unique concentrations of antibiotics, allowing to moniture a vast spectrum of bacterial repsonses over night. The bacterial growth

Effect of Biosynthesized Gold and Silver Nanoparticles Using Alchemilla vulgaris Extract and Their Synergistic Action with Subinhibitory Concentrations of Ampicillin Against Staphylococci

open access: yesAntibiotics
Background: Staphylococci, recognized for their virulence and antibiotic resistance, are important in both human and veterinary medicine. Loss of sensitivity to beta-lactam antibiotics, such as ampicillin, complicates therapy, prompting the search for ...

Gut Microbial Release of Ferulic Acid From Germinated Quinoa Alleviates Obesity‐Associated Cognitive Impairment by Activating Hippocampal Mitophagy Associated with PINK1/Parkin Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Liberation of ferulic acid by gut microbial feruloyl esterase mediates cognitive enhancement of germinated quinoa (GQF) on obese mice. Ferulic acid enriched in GQF is released by gut microbes Roseburia hominis and R. intestinalis and subsequently mediates the neuroprotective effects of GQF on obesity‐induced cognitive decline by activating hippocampal ...

Programmable Nanobody‐Targeting Chimeras Enable Intracellular Viral Protein Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nab‐TAC enables targeted degradation of HBV surface antigen (HBsAg) in vivo. By fusing nanobody‐based recognition domains with programmable proteasome‐recruiting degradation signals, Nab‐TAC reduces HBsAg levels in a hydrodynamic HBV mouse model. ABSTRACT Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection remains a major global health challenge, largely because

Pyrazole‐Derived Antibacterial Compounds Effectively Treat Methicillin‐Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus Infections by Inhibiting Aspartate Transcarbamoylase

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study unveils a novel antibacterial mechanism against MRSA, in which the compound Py‐27 selectively targets and inhibits aspartate transcarbamoylase (ATCase), a key enzyme in pyrimidine synthesis. This inhibition disrupts DNA replication, induces oxidative damage, leading to potent bactericidal activity.

Unveiling the Taxonomic Diversity and Unprecedented Biosynthetic Treasure of the Phylum Myxococcota

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Natural products remain vital sources of therapeutics, and the phylum Myxococcota constitutes an especially rich reservoir for them. Based on decades of microbiological efforts, we present 154 new Myxococcota genomes and revise taxonomy quadrupling the number of families and genera.

Rapid Multiplex Antimicrobial Resistance Profiling and Bacterial Identification by LAP‐MALDI Mass Spectrometry Biotyping

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Liquid atmospheric pressure matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization (LAP‐MALDI) mass spectrometry (MS) provides multiplexed biotyping of microbial cultures using a fast and simple workflow. This is demonstrated for clinically relevant bacteria, resulting in accurate antimicrobial resistance (AMR) detection, speciation by MS/MS sequencing and ...

F‐Type Pyocin Versus Phage λ Tail: Conserved Hub, Divergent Fibers

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Near‐atomic cryo‐EM structures of a Gram‐negative F‐type pyocin reveal a conserved tail tip architecture shared with bacteriophage λ together with a previously unrecognized side‐fiber attachment mode. These findings provide new insight into tailocin assembly and host recognition and establish a structural framework for engineering precision ...

Synergistic Advanced Oxidation and Physicochemical Treatment Strategies for Antibiotic Removal and Resistance Mitigation in Water

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The presence of antibiotics in water not only causes environmental pollution but also increases the growth of antibiotic‐resistant bacterial genes, which pose serious threats to human beings and other water residents. Large numbers of people are reportedly affected by the resistant bacterial genes, as many broad‐spectrum antibiotics are not ...
