Drug‐Induced Liver Injury by Selective Androgenic Receptor Modulators

open access: yesHepatology Communications, 2020
Selective androgenic receptor modulators (SARMs) have not been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration but they are heavily promoted as alternatives to androgenic anabolic steroids. We present two cases of liver injury associated with SARMs.

Merging Biocatalysis and Chemocatalysis in Flow: State‐of‐the‐Art and Future Directions for Sustainable Synthesis

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 25, 15 June 2026.
This review highlights recent advances in integrating biocatalysis and chemocatalysis in continuous flow to create streamlined, sustainable processes. It examines chemo‐enzymatic cascades combining at least one enzymatic and one chemical step, discusses challenges such as enzyme immobilization, leaching, and reactor clogging, and presents solutions ...

Androgenic anabolic steroids also impair right ventricular function

open access: yes, 2009
Chronic anabolic steroid use suppresses left ventricular functions. However, there is no information regarding the chronic effects of anabolic steroids on right ventricular function which also plays a key role in global cardiac function.

Effects of testosterone and high‐dose anabolic steroids on orthodontic‐induced bone remodeling and root resorption: An animal study

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background This study investigates the impact of disruptions in testosterone levels on bone remodeling, root resorption, and periodontal ligament (PDL) during orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) in a pubertal male rat model. Methods Testosterone deficiency was induced through orchiectomy, and the anabolic‐androgenic steroid (AAS, testosterone ...

What anabolic–androgenic steroids reveal about the limits of current harm reduction models

open access: yesAddiction, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Harm reduction has largely been shaped by responses to psychoactive drug use where the most urgent harms are acute. These models focus on overdose, blood‐borne viruses, and rapid‐onset toxicity related harms. When applied wholesale to anabolic–androgenic steroids (AAS), they obscure the distinctive pharmacology, consumer typologies,

Contact Activation Is Alleviated by Testosterone Replacement Therapy in Klinefelter Syndrome: Evidence of Hormonal and Metabolic Modulation

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Klinefelter syndrome is associated with a markedly increased risk of venous thrombosis. While hypogonadism and metabolic dysfunction are known contributors, the role of the contact activation system in Klinefelter syndrome remains unexplored.

Resting spontaneous baroreflex sensitivity and cardiac autonomic control in anabolic androgenic steroid users

open access: yesClinics, 2018
OBJECTIVES: Misuse of anabolic androgenic steroids in athletes is a strategy used to enhance strength and skeletal muscle hypertrophy. However, its abuse leads to an imbalance in muscle sympathetic nerve activity, increased vascular resistance, and ...

Physiological Basis of Sex Differences in Human Performance and Exercise‐Associated Pathology

open access: yesClinical Endocrinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The presence of sex differences in human physical performance is well‐established and shaped by distinct endocrine, anatomical and physiological mechanisms. Despite sustained advances, our understanding of how inherent biological factors drive variations in exercise capacity and related pathologies is still developing.
