Anabolic androgenic steroid-induced Takotsubo cardiomyopathy [PDF]

open access: yesBMJ Case Reports, 2015
Anabolic steroid abuse, aimed at increasing muscle mass, has been growing in recent years. We describe a case of a 25-year-old bodybuilder who, after taking nandrolone and stanozolol, presented with Takotsubo syndrome. The angiography showed a normal coronary anatomy with the absence of stenosis.

Contact Activation Is Alleviated by Testosterone Replacement Therapy in Klinefelter Syndrome: Evidence of Hormonal and Metabolic Modulation

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Klinefelter syndrome is associated with a markedly increased risk of venous thrombosis. While hypogonadism and metabolic dysfunction are known contributors, the role of the contact activation system in Klinefelter syndrome remains unexplored.

Physiological Basis of Sex Differences in Human Performance and Exercise‐Associated Pathology

open access: yesClinical Endocrinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The presence of sex differences in human physical performance is well‐established and shaped by distinct endocrine, anatomical and physiological mechanisms. Despite sustained advances, our understanding of how inherent biological factors drive variations in exercise capacity and related pathologies is still developing.

Endocrine and androgenic response to altitude training in professional cyclists

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Steroidal and endocrine variables are altered during altitude training. Abstract This study investigated endocrine and steroidal blood markers in 31 male elite cyclists monitored over 7 weeks, including a 3 week altitude training camp either at 2050 m (n = 19) or 3000 m (n = 12).

Statistical Discrimination of Urinary Steroid Biomarkers in the Athlete Biological Passport: A Novel Approach to an Abnormal Steroid Profile Score (ASPS)

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, Volume 18, Issue 5, Page 608-618, May 2026.
The study developed a single Abnormal Steroid Profile Score (ASPS) to improve interpretation of the Athlete Biological Passport steroid module. Using Bayesian modelling and logistic regression, biomarker patterns from laboratory and doping control data successfully discriminated between doped and clean individuals, with improved classification ...
