Transcriptomic response of breast cancer cells to anacardic acid [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
AbstractAnacardic acid (AnAc), a potential dietary agent for preventing and treating breast cancer, inhibited the proliferation of estrogen receptor α (ERα) positive MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 triple negative breast cancer cells. To characterize potential regulators of AnAc action, MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 cells were treated for 6 h with purified AnAc 24:1n5 ...

The Potential of Phytochemicals to Overcome Multidrug Resistance in Metastatic Melanoma

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Metastatic melanoma is the most lethal form of skin cancer, accounting for most skin cancer‐related deaths. Immunotherapies and targeted therapies have improved overall and progression‐free survival rates in metastatic melanoma patients. The effectiveness of these therapies decreases due to multidrug resistance (MDR).

Total Synthesis of Altissimacoumarin D, a Small Molecule Sirtuin1 Activator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The total synthesis of the plant natural product altissimacoumarin D was achieved by the Mitsunobu alkylation of isofraxidin by geraniol. Isofraxidin was prepared from 2,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde in five steps.

Epoxidation of CNSL Mixture, Cardanol, and Cardol: A Sustainable Solution for PVC Plasticization

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Lipid Science and Technology, Volume 128, Issue 1, January 2026.
This study has its focus on the epoxidation of technical cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL), used as a PVC plasticizer. Epoxidation significantly enhanced plasticizing properties (increased elongation at break, decreased Young's modulus), along with improved thermal stability and chemical resistance.

Characterization of xanthine oxidase inhibition by anacardic acids

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Molecular Basis of Disease, 2004
Anacardic acid, 6[8(Z), 11(Z), 14-pentadecatrienyl]salicylic acid, inhibits generation of superoxide radicals by xanthine oxidase. This inhibition does not follow a hyperbolic inhibition, depends on anacardic acid concentrations, but follows a sigmoidal inhibition. The inhibition was analyzed by using a Hill equation, and slope factor and EC(50) were 4.

Anacardic acid, interleukin-33, and the quest for remyelination [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2020
In PNAS, Ljunggren-Rose et al. (1) present results from a study assessing the effect of anacardic acid, a salicylic acid derivative with a 15- or 17-carbon-containing alkyl chain substituent (i.e., 2-hydroxy 6-alkylbenzoic acid), on remyelination. Anacardic acids are phytochemicals that are found in foods such as cashews and mangoes.

Non‐canonical nitric oxide signalling and DNA methylation: Inflammation induced epigenetic alterations and potential drug targets

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 1, Page 24-39, January 2026.
Abstract DNA methylation controls DNA accessibility to transcription factors and other regulatory proteins, thereby affecting gene expression and hence cellular identity and function. As epigenetic modifications control the transcriptome, epigenetic dysfunction is strongly associated with pathological conditions and ageing.
