Surgical Site Infection and Antimicrobial Resistance After Mastectomy in Dogs and Cats: A 615‐Case Multicentre Cohort and Infection‐Control Audit

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 6, November 2026.
In 615 mastectomy procedures in intact dogs and cats without concurrent ovariohysterectomy, 54 surgical site infections (8.8%) were identified during 30‐day surveillance. Longer surgery, intraoperative hypothermia and previous major surgery showed the most consistent adjusted associations, predominantly reflecting dogs; 16/33 cultured infections ...

The Association of Diet, Intestinal Microbial Starch Utilizers and Butyrate‐Producers in Early Life

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 28, Issue 11, November 2026.
In vitro, resistant starch cross‐feeding of A. hallii with R. bromii yielded higher amounts of butyrate than with B. adolescentis. At the same time, infants that harboured both starch utilizer and A. hallii had higher faecal butyrate levels than those without these species.

Lachnospiraceae in the Food–Gut Axis: A Critical Review of Dietary Modulation, Immune Regulation, and Translational Barriers

open access: yesComprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, Volume 25, Issue 6, November 2026.
ABSTRACT The interplay between diet, gut microbiota, and host immunity is central to food science. The Lachnospiraceae family ferments dietary fibers to produce short‐chain fatty acids (SCFAs), notably butyrate and propionate, with immunomodulatory potential. This critical review distinguishes established findings from hypotheses.

Microbial Characteristics of Weissella cibaria HRL3 and Its Immunostimulatory Effects via TLR3/TLR9‐Dependent IFN‐α Production

open access: yesJournal of Food Science, Volume 91, Issue 11, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Rhinacanthus nasutus (L.) Kurz is a medicinal plant whose roots, stems, and leaves are commonly used in tea and traditional Chinese medicine; however, the beneficial effects of its flowers remain to be investigated. In this study, the lactic acid bacteria (LAB) found in the flowers of R.

Integrated Microbial Profiling Identifies Bacterial and Fungal Communities in Pseudomyxoma Peritonei Mucin

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 19, Issue 11, November 2026.
Integrated profiling of pseudomyxoma peritonei mucin revealed bacterial and fungal communities spatially supported by rRNA detection. Bacterial communities also displayed histological grade‐associated differences in predicted metabolic pathways, supporting PMP mucin as a complex multi‐kingdom microbial environment. ABSTRACT Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP)
