Is the anaerobic threshold truly anaerobic?

Chest, 1992
This study was done to address the question as to whether there was an exercise metabolic rate below which the O2 supply to the muscles was adequate to meet the O2 requirement and above which the O2 supply was inadequate, ie, an anaerobic threshold (AT). The question was addressed using 2 approaches: (1) The arterial lactate/pyruvate ratio was measured

Anaerobic dechlorination and degradation of hexachlorocyclohexane isomers by anaerobic and facultative anaerobic bacteria

Archives of Microbiology, 1977
Screening studies with strict and facultative anaerobic bacteria showed that Clostridium app. and several other representatives of Bacillaceae and Enterobacteriaceae actively degraded gamma-hexachlorocyclohexane (gamma-HCH) under anaerobic conditions. Representatives of Lactobacillaceae and Propronibacterium were inactive.

Anaerobic Mediastinitis

Clinical Infectious Diseases, 1984
Anaerobic bacteria often are neglected in discussions of the bacteriology of mediastinitis. Two cases of anaerobic mediastinitis are reported and the literature in this field is reviewed. Anaerobes are important pathogens in the etiology of mediastinitis secondary to perforation of the esophagus, extension of a retropharyngeal abscess, or extension of ...

Anaerobic dehalogenases

Current Opinion in Biotechnology, 1997
Several anaerobic bacteria are able to reductively dehalogenate chlorinated hydrocarbons and to couple this reaction to the synthesis of ATP via a chemiosmotic mechanism (dehalorespiration). A few reductive dehalogenases have recently been purified and characterized.
