Integration of on-farm biodiesel production with anaerobic digestion to maximise energy yield and greenhouse gas savings from process and farm residues [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Anaerobic co-digestion of residues from the cold pressing and trans-esterification of oilseed rape (OSR) with other farm wastes was considered as a means of enhancing the sustainability of on-farm biodiesel production.

Life Cycle Assessment and Techno-Economic Assessment of Anaerobic Co-Digestion: A Short Review

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2021
Waste-to-energy conversion such as anaerobic digestion has been widely promoted under the subsidies to decouple from fossil fuel dependence system and its inherent two-fold benefits.

Human Gut Bacteria and Lipidic Nanoparticles: Particle Composition Predicts Structural Transformation and Bacterial Biocompatibility

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Lipidic nanoparticles (LNPs) were incubated with 21 gut bacteria frequently associated with the human microbiome. SAXS revealed that ∼75% of tested species induced structural transformations in monoolein LNPs, whereas phytantriol and phospholipid formulations remained unaffected.

Bio-hythane production from food waste by dark fermentation coupled with anaerobic digestion process: A long-term pilot scale experience [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper are presented the results of the investigation on optimal process operational conditions of thermophilic dark fermentation and anaerobic digestion of food waste, testing a long term run, applying an organic loading rate of 16.3 kgTVS/m3d in

Effects of rice straw biochar on microbial community structure and metabolic function during anaerobic digestion

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Anaerobic digestion technology mitigates agricultural organic waste pollution, thereby alleviating the energy crisis. Biochar materials increase the utilisation rate of biomass resources and promote the enrichment and growth of microorganisms. Biochar is

Leaftronics: Bio‐Fractal Scaffolds From Leaf Venation for Low‐Waste Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
“Leaftronics” transforms naturally evolved leaf venation into quasi‐fractal scaffolds for sustainable electronics. Polymer‐infiltrated leaf skeletons can be used to fabricate ultra‐smooth, reflow‐ and thin‐film‐compatible decomposable substrates, while making the same lignocellulose networks conducting results in flexible transparent electrodes.

Co-digestion of food waste and hydrothermal liquid digestate: Promotion effect of self-generated hydrochars

open access: yesEnvironmental Science and Ecotechnology, 2023
Hydrothermal treatment (HTT) can efficiently valorize the digestate after anaerobic digestion. However, the disposal of the HTT liquid is challenging. This paper proposes a method to recover energy through the anaerobic co-digestion of food waste and HTT

Gut Microbiota Regulates Systemic Inflammatory Response and Compensatory Anti‐Inflammatory Response Syndromes by Targeting PF4+ Macrophages in Acute Pancreatitis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Acute pancreatitis (AP) begins with pancreatic local inflammation, leading to the onset of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), followed by compensatory anti‐inflammatory response syndrome (CARS), which causes immune paralysis and higher mortality rate.

The effect of organic loading rate on foam initiation during mesophilic anaerobic digestion of municipal wastewater sludge [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The impact of increasing organic load on anaerobic digestion foaming was studied at both full and bench scale. Organic loadings of 1.25, 2.5 and 5 kg VS m(-3) were applied to bench-scale digesters.

Impact of substrate heterogeneity on anaerobic co-digestion process: a review

open access: yesEQA
Anaerobic co-digestion is one potential strategy for maximizing the infrastructure's capacity for treatment while improving biogas output. It involves the addition of two or more substrates being digested simultaneously in the process.
