Enhancing and Stabilizing Hydrogen Catalysis Through [NiFe]‐Hydrogenase Immobilization Within Macroporous Covalent Organic Frameworks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
[NiFe]‐hydrogenases efficiently catalyze hydrogen conversion, but their instability limits biotechnological applications. Here it is shown that encapsulating hydrogenase into hierarchical COFs with macro‐ and micropores and functionalized with sulfonic or carboxylic acid groups improves enzyme stability and electron transfer to electrodes.

Mesoporous Carbon Thin Films with Large Mesopores as Model Material for Electrochemical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Mesoporous carbon thin films possessing 70 nm mesopores are prepared on titanium substrates by soft templating of resol resins with a self‐synthesized poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐poly(hexyl acrylate) block copolymer. A strategy to avoid corrosion of the metal substrate is presented, and the films are extensively characterized in terms of morphology ...

A computational predictor of the anaerobic mechanical power outputs from a clinical exercise stress test.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2023
We previously were able to predict the anaerobic mechanical power outputs using features taken from a maximal incremental cardiopulmonary exercise stress test (CPET).

Muscle carnosine metabolism and β-alanine supplementation in relation to exercise and training [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Carnosine is a dipeptide with a high concentration in mammalian skeletal muscle. It is synthesized by carnosine synthase from the amino acids L-histidine and beta-alanine, of which the latter is the rate-limiting precursor, and degraded by carnosinase ...

Self‐Feeding of Engineered Tissues via Controlled Glucose Release Facilitates Survival and Vascularization of Living Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Engineering living matter has great clinical potential to deliver functional replacement organs. However, clinical translation remains hampered by the current inability to maintain viability of clinically relevant‐sized constructs. During the pre‐vascular phase, implants rely on nutrient diffusion for survival, which is insufficient at ...

Aerobic and Anaerobic Exercise: Associations with Academic Outcomes in College Students [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Previous studies have found that physical activity is associated with greater academic achievements among students. However, it remains unclear whether associations are present in both aerobic exercise and anaerobic exercise.

Hypoxic training increases maximal oxygen consumption in Thoroughbred horses well-trained in normoxia. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Hypoxic training is effective for improving athletic performance in humans. It increases maximal oxygen consumption (V̇O2max) more than normoxic training in untrained horses. However, the effects of hypoxic training on well-trained horses are unclear. We

Metronidazole‐Loaded Cyclodextrin Nanogels for Antibacterial Therapy and Microbiota Regulation in Periodontitis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A methacrylamide β‐cyclodextrin‐based nanogel (MACD nGel) is developed to load the antimicrobial drug Metronidazole (MNZ) for topical delivery for the treatment of periodontitis. It is demonstrated that cyclodextrin nanogel (nGel) loaded with metronidazole provides an efficient drug delivery route but also has potential clinical applications and offers

Living Materials Approach for In Situ Bio‐Polymers Production Using Bacillus Paralicheniformis in Microneedles

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Dissolvable microneedle (MN) device containing Bacillus paralicheniformis. The polymeric matrix encapsulates and protects the bacteria, preserving their viability while enabling in situ production and release of γ‐polyglutamic acid. The bacteria are delivered into the skin via 500 µm‐long microneedles, and remain detectable on the skin 24 h post ...

Effects of Blood Flow Restriction and Exercise Intensity on Aerobic, Anaerobic, and Muscle Strength Adaptations in Physically Active Collegiate Women

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2019
The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of different combinations of blood flow restriction (BFR) pressure and exercise intensity on aerobic, anaerobic, and muscle strength adaptations in physically active collegiate women. Thirty-two women (
