Effect of Na+ and Ca2+ on the Aggregation Properties of Sieved Anaerobic Granular Sludge

open access: yesColloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects, 2007
Interactions between fine particles (0¿50 ¿m) of anaerobic granular sludge were investigated by studying the effect of Na+ or Ca2+ supply on the evolution of the zeta potential and viscosity of granular sludge suspensions.

Ecological distribution of anaerobic granular sludge towards efficient anaerobic reactor

Bioresource Technology, 2023
Anaerobic reactors often underperform compared to expectations. To identify the key factors, an ecological anaerobic reactor (EAR) with vertical partitions was developed and compared to a physical anaerobic reactor (PAR) as the control. It was observed that EAR achieved a much higher organic loading rate (OLR) compared to PAR (>100 vs 45 kg/m3·d).

Bioconversion of Selenate in Methanogenic Anaerobic Granular Sludge

Journal of Environmental Quality, 2006
ABSTRACTThe capacity of anaerobic granular sludge to remove selenate from contaminated wastewater was investigated. The potential of different types of granular sludge to remove selenate from the liquid phase was compared to that of suspended sludge and contaminated soil and sediment samples.

Characterization of Anaerobic Granular Sludge Using a Rheological Approach

Water Research, 2016
High-rate anaerobic granular sludge reactors have been developed and are widely used for wastewater treatment. An accurate estimate of sludge rheological properties is required for the design and efficient operation of the digestion process. The present work determined the rheological behavior of anaerobic granular sludge obtained from a full-scale ...

Azo dye decolourisation by anaerobic granular sludge

Chemosphere, 2001
The decolourisation of 20 selected azo dyes by granular sludge from an upward-flow anaerobic sludge bed (UASB) reactor was assayed. Complete reduction was found for all azo dyes tested, generally yielding colourless products. The reactions followed first-order kinetics and reaction rates varied greatly between dyes: half-life times ranged from 1 to ...

Viscosity Evolution of Anaerobic Granular Sludge

Biochemical Engineering Journal, 2006
Abstract The evolution of the apparent viscosity at steady shear rate of sieved anaerobic granular sludge (20–315 μm diameter) sampled from different full-scale anaerobic reactors was recorded using rotation tests. The “limit viscosity” of sieved anaerobic granular sludge was determined from the apparent viscosity. The limit viscosity values depended

Magnetic anaerobic granular sludge for sequestration and immobilization of Pb

Water Research, 2023
The development of magnetic adsorbents with high capacity to capture heavy metals has been the subject of intense research, but the process usually involves costive synthesis steps. Here, we propose a green approach to obtaining a magnetic biohybrid through in situ grown anaerobic granular sludge (AGS) with the help of magnetite, constituting a ...

Anaerobic Granular Sludge Bioreactor Technology

Reviews in Environmental Science and Biotechnology, 2003
Anaerobic digestion is a mature wastewater treatment technology, with worldwide application. The predominantly applied bioreactor designs, such as the upflow anaerobic sludge blanket and expanded granular sludge bed, are based on the spontaneous formation of granular sludge.

Rheological and Fractal Characteristics of Granular Sludge in an Upflow Anaerobic Reactor

open access: yesWater Research, 2006
The rheological and fractal characteristics of the granular sludge in an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor were investigated in this study. The influences of sludge concentration and temperature on the rheological properties of the granular ...
