Crater formation on anaerobic granular sludge
Chemical Engineering Journal, 2016Abstract Anaerobic granular sludge plays an important role in high-rate anaerobic reactors for the improvement of wastewater treatment efficiency. The structure of granules is closely related to the mass transfer process and anaerobic biodegradation process.

Biosorption of chlorophenols to anaerobic granular sludge
Water Research, 1992Abstract The sorption of chlorophenols by anaerobic sludge granules was studied in order to more completely understand the fate of chlorophenols and their degradation products in upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactors. Sorption isotherms were determined for pentachlorophenol and most isomers of tri-, di- and monochlorophenols, and the data were ...

Selenium speciation in anaerobic granular sludge
International Journal of Environmental Analytical Chemistry, 2006Chromatographic (IC-CD, GC-FID) and spectroscopic (XRD) techniques that allow the specific determination of several selenium species present or formed during bioremediation processes of selenate contaminated drinking, ground, or wastewaters have been established. The developed techniques are shown to be applicable in determining selenium species in the

Granular sludge formation in upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactors
Biotechnology and Bioengineering, 2000The state of the art for upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactors is discussed, focusing on the microbiology of immobilized anaerobic bacteria and the mechanism of granule formation. The development of granular sludge is the key factor for successful operation of the UASB reactors.

Physicochemical characteristics of anaerobic H2-producing granular sludge
Bioresource Technology, 2011Granule-based biological H2 production processes are gaining great popularity in recent years. An efficient and stable operating of such systems relies heavily on the performance of the H2-producing granules (HPGs), which possess many unique properties compared with floc sludge and methanogenic granules.

Production and application of anaerobic granular sludge produced by landfill
Journal of Environmental Sciences, 2007Sludge granulation is considered to be the most critical parameter governing successful operation of an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket and expanded granular sludge bed (EGSB) reactors. Pre-granulated seeding sludge could greatly reduce the required startup time.

Phenol Inhibition and Restoration of the Bioactivity of Anaerobic Granular Sludge
Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 2008Inhibition and restoration of different concentrations of phenol on the bioactivity of anaerobic granular sludge were investigated with laboratory-scale equipment. It indicated that phenol concentration lower than 50 mg/l show no inhibitory effect on bioactivities of granular sludge.

CO Biomethanation with Different Anaerobic Granular Sludges
Waste and Biomass Valorization, 2020Biomethanation of the syngas from biomass gasification provides an alternative method for production of biofuel and chemicals. CO in syngas plays a key role in biomethanation of syngas, as it is both a substrate and an inhibitor of certain methanogenesis processes.

Bioremediation of wastewaters with decabromodiphenyl ether by anaerobic granular sludge
Colloids and Surfaces B: Biointerfaces, 2015Facilities adopting anaerobic granular sludge are widely used for the treatment of high strength wastewater, and hence collect many polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), especially decabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-209). We initiated a detailed investigation to gain insight into the bioremoval of BDE-209 by anaerobic granules.

Electrokinetic Copper and Iron Migration in Anaerobic Granular Sludge
Water, Air, and Soil Pollution, 2006The application of low-level direct electric current (0.15 mA cm−2) as an electrokinetic technique to treat copper-contaminated mesophilic anaerobic granular sludge was investigated. The sludge was obtained from a full scale UASB reactor treating paper-mill wastewater and was artificially contaminated by Cu(NO3)2 or CuEDTA2− with initial copper ...
