Salinity–temperature interaction drives metabolic and energetic changes in an Arctic crustacean

open access: yesEcosphere
The Arctic is shifting towards a prevalence of warm and more saline Atlantic‐like waters. These changes in the marine environment pose significant challenges for the ecophysiology of marine invertebrates.

Ammonification Process Is Limited by Transformation of Medium Molecular Weight Nitrogenous Organics but Not Hydrolysis of Proteins

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A multi‐level analytical framework, integrating protein‐level persistence analysis, nontargeted HRMS formula tracking, peptide‐level proteomics, and targeted monomer quantification under varying redox conditions, together with FMO calculations reveal that ammonification is limited by medium molecular weight nitrogenous multimers.

Effect of biochar addition on the anaerobic digestion of food waste: microbial community structure and methanogenic pathways

open access: yesWater Science and Technology
This study assessed the effects of the addition of biochar prepared at 700 °C with different dosages on the anaerobic digestion of food waste. The biochar addition at a concentration of 10.0 g/L increased the cumulative methane yield by 128%, and daily ...

Acid‐Responsive Nanobot‐Integrated Core‐Shell Microneedles Reprogram the Degenerative Annulus Fibrosus Microenvironment Through Epigenetic Suppression of Ferroptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An acid‐responsive core‐shell microneedle system normalizes the degenerative annulus fibrosus microenvironment by consuming pathological H+, generating O2, and providing NIR‐amplified redox buffering. Mechanistically, it epigenetically suppresses ferroptosis via DNMT3A‐dependent methylation of the ATF3 promoter, relieving ATF3‐mediated repression of ...

Anaerobic degradability of wool scouring effluent [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
The anaerobic degradability of wool scouring effluent was investigated in batch cultures. The results were compared to the degradation of cellulose and sterile activated sludge.

Multimodal Imaging of Hypoxia, Metabolism and pH in Feline Sarcoma Using Hyperpolarized 13C MRI and PET

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents a clinically deployable simultaneous PET/MRI workflow which integrates hyperpolarized 13C imaging of metabolism and extracellular pH with [18F]FMISO PET to characterize hypoxia, acidosis, and metabolic reprogramming in feline sarcoma.

A Gut‐Brain Axis Underlying Succinate‐Associated Compulsive‐Like Behavior

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Gut‐derived succinate is associated with an excitatory‐inhibitory imbalance in dmPFC glutamatergic neurons, involving microglial SUCNR1 activation and vagal afferent signaling via upregulated gut 5‐HT4 receptors along the DVC‐CeA‐dmPFC circuit, changes that are linked to excessive compulsive‐like behavior.
