GelMA‐based 3D spheroids recapitulate transcriptomic and functional hallmarks of myeloid sarcoma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
GelMA 5% hydrogels support the formation of myeloid leukemia spheroids that recapitulate MS‐specific features, including G1 arrest, apoptosis, and ECM‐driven transcriptomic reprogramming. The 3D model mimicked soft‐tissue‐like stiffness and oxygen conditions, and transcriptomic convergence with primary MS samples confirmed its utility as a preclinical ...

A minimal cellulosome‐like system in Cellulosilyticum lentocellum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cellulose‐degrading bacteria typically use cellulosomes, large multi‐enzyme complexes on a scaffold protein. In Cellulosilyticum lentocellum, we characterise a far smaller arrangement, a single scaffold bound to one cellulase through a single cohesin‐dockerin interaction.

The effects of the combination of bioplastic and its degrading bacteria (Genus Acidovorax) on the metabolic activity of anaerobic bacteria in Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baerii) fingerlings hindgut by using CLPP

open access: yesیافته‌های نوین در علوم زیستی, 2019
Community Level Physiological Profiles (CLPP) is novel method to evaluate microbial activity and diversity in ecosystems. According to the previous findings, poly-β-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) as a bio-control product, increases bacterial diversity in some ...

DELAYED URIC ACID ACCUMULATION IN PLASMA PROVIDES ADDITIONAL ANTI- OXIDANT PROTECTION AGAINST IRON- TRIGGERED OXIDATIVE STRESS AFTER A WINGATE TEST

open access: yesBiology of Sport, 2014
Reactive oxygen species are produced during anaerobic exercise mostly by Fe ions released into plasma and endothelial/muscle xanthine oxidase activation that generates uric acid (UA) as the endpoint metabolite.

Soil Inorganic Electron Acceptors and Carbon Substrates Hierarchically Govern Wetland Methanogenesis Temperature Response

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Wetlands constitute Earth's largest natural methane (CH4) source, yet projections of their climate feedback remain uncertain due to poorly constrained temperature sensitivity (Q10‐CH4) of microbial methanogenesis. While water table dynamics have been demonstrated to regulate wetland methanogenesis by altering key soil conditions such as ...

The Metabolic Systems: Anaerobic Metabolism (Glycolytic and Phosphagen)

open access: yes, 2003
This chapter outlines the history of the study of anaerobic metabolism during exercise. The emphasis is on the early origins and progression of studies on phosphagen and glycolytic metabolism. Although the topic is "anaerobic" metabolism, the interrelationship between oxygen and lactic acid production is considered to be of prime importance.

Iron‐Mediated Release of Aged Dissolved Organic Carbon From Waterlogged Peatland Under Warming

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study conducts a five‐year in situ warming experiment in high‐altitude peatlands to examine dissolved organic carbon (DOC) release. The study shows that warming promotes the release of plant‐derived modern DOC in drained peatlands, but amplifies aquatic export of century‐old DOC from waterlogged peatlands via Fe‐mediated DOC mobilization—a ...

Simultaneous aerobic and anaerobic respiration in hot spring chemolithotrophic bacteria

open access: yesNature Communications
Aerobic and anaerobic organisms and their functions are spatially or temporally decoupled at scales ranging from individual cells to ecosystems and from minutes to hours. This is due to competition for energy substrates and/or biochemical incompatibility

Targeted Restoration of the Microbial Tryptophan Oxidative Pathway Ameliorates Autism‐Like Behavioral and Synaptic Deficits

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is associated with gut microbiota dysbiosis, yet the contribution of specific microbial metabolic pathways remains unclear. Reanalysis of a public ASD cohort revealed reduced functional potential in microbial tryptophan oxidative metabolism.

Potential errors in the quantitative evaluation of biogas production in anaerobic digestion processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Errors that are commonly made in the quantification of biogas from anaerobic digestion experiments were investigated. For liquid displacement gasometers where a barrier solution separates the biogas and the atmosphere, inaccuracy due to gas diffusion was ...
