Sunlight‐Driven Green Synthesis of Platinum Nanoparticles From Double‐Vacancy Halide Perovskite Precursors for Methanol Reforming

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The development of synthetic procedures for preparing metal nanoparticles with controlled size using sunlight opens new avenues toward more sustainable methods with lower energy consumption. Herein, we propose the use of double‐vacancy halide perovskites as precursors for engineering highly crystalline and small platinum nanoparticles (< 3 nm)

Economic and environmental implications of the development of UASB reactors in Mexico for sustainable industrial wastewater treatment

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract The objective of this work is to demonstrate that the inclusion of an up‐flow anaerobic sludge bed (UASB reactor) within an industrial wastewater treatment plant reduces the plant's investment and operating costs compared to a system based solely on conventional complete‐mix activated sludge (CMAS), operating under the same design principles ...

Iron(III)‐loaded cation exchange resin: A dual approach for aqueous H2S removal and biogas desulphurization

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Left: Desulphurization method application. Right: Novel desulphurization method. Abstract The presence of hydrogen sulphide (H2S) in biogas poses significant environmental and operational challenges due to its corrosive and toxic properties. Thus, this study aimed to develop a dual‐function desulphurization system using a cation exchange resin (CIER ...

a low-activity cold seep in the Larsen B area, western Weddell Sea, Antarctica [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
First videographic indication of an Antarctic cold seep ecosystem was recently obtained from the collapsed Larsen B ice shelf, western Weddell Sea (Domack et al., 2005).

Waste activated sludge high‐rate treatment of septage: Stabilization phase trials and comparison with winery wastewater treatment

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Performance evaluation of the waste activated sludge high‐rate (WASHR) process for septic wastewater treatment. Abstract The waste‐activated sludge high‐rate (WASHR) process is evaluated as a batch‐mode pre‐treatment for actual septage using a high‐rate contact stabilization (HRCS) approach.

Exergy‐Based Simulation and Optimization of Multiagent MSW Gasification for Sustainable Energy Recovery Using Aspen Plus

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Thermochemical gasification is one of the most efficient methods for producing solid waste synthesis gas. Therefore, to predict and analyze the process of gasification of municipal solid waste (MSW) in a downdraft fixed‐bed gasification reactor with a thermal capacity of 2.1 kW, a comprehensive numerical modeling approach based on Gibbs free ...

Thermochemical oxidation of methane by manganese oxides in hydrothermal sediments

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment, 2023
Microbial anaerobic oxidation of methane coupled to the reduction of Mn(IV)-oxides, typically MnO2, derived from continental weathering and riverine transport has been proposed as a globally important sink of methane.

Nitrite-driven anaerobic methane oxidation by oxygenic bacteria [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 2010
Only three biological pathways are known to produce oxygen: photosynthesis, chlorate respiration and the detoxification of reactive oxygen species. Here we present evidence for a fourth pathway, possibly of considerable geochemical and evolutionary importance. The pathway was discovered after metagenomic sequencing of an enrichment culture that couples

Waste to Hydrogen: Transforming Food Waste Into Biohythane (Bio‐H2 + Bio‐CH4) in a Two‐Stage Reactor With the Aid of a Metal‐Ion Catalyst

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a two‐stage catalytic bioreactor system that converts real food waste into high‐purity biohydrogen and biohythane. In Stage‐1, an enriched Clostridium thermocellum culture combined with Ni2+─Fe2+ bimetallic catalysis enhances hydrolysis efficiency and hydrogenase activity, resulting in a 77% increase in H2 yield and 75.8% purity
