Iterative algorithm for designing asymptotically optimal uniform scalar quantisation of the one‐sided Rayleigh density

open access: yesIET Communications, 2021
Design of optimal and asymptotically optimal quantisation subject to the mean squared error (MSE) criterion is a complex issue, even in the case of uniform scalar quantisation (USQ).

A 64 × 64 CMOS digital pixel array based on pulse width analogue to digital conversion, with on chip linearising circuit

open access: yes, 2004
This paper describes a 64 × 64 digital pixel array employing a pulse width analogue to digital conversion scheme. Each pixel contains a photodiode sensor, comparator and memory, and in conjunction with a central control circuit performs the analogue to ...

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

Computer Aided Analysis of Turbine Blade Vibration Test Data

open access: yesMeasurement + Control, 1973
A pilot system has been developed which automatically scans and evaluates experimental vibration data obtained from a test rig replica of a bladed wheel of a turbine in service. High vibration amplitude signals are selected for further analysis.

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Developmental and Epileptic Encephalopathy due to Biallelic Pathogenic Variants in PIGM

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective PIGM encodes a critical enzyme in the glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)‐anchor biosynthesis pathway. While promoter‐region mutations in PIGM have been associated with a relatively mild phenotype characterized by portal vein thrombosis and absence seizures, recent evidence suggests that coding‐region mutations result in a more severe

Normal‐Appearing White Matter Injury Mediates Chronic Deep Venous Hypoxia and Disease Progression in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To explore how cerebral hypoxia and Normal‐Appearing White Matter (NAWM) integrity affect MS lesion burden and clinical course. Methods Seventy‐nine MS patients, including 13 clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) patients and 66 relapsing–remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) patients, and 44 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited from ...

Time domain analogue to digital conversion in a digital pixel sensor array

open access: yes, 2004
This paper presents a digital pixel sensor array, in which the photodiode sensor, the analogue to digital conversion circuitry, and an 8-bit memory are combined in the 45μm × 45μm pixel, yielding a 12% fill factor.
