Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

The formation of open fractures in cohesive materials, results of scaled analogue and numerical modelling on fault zone porosity development

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2010
We compare analogue and numerical models of dilatational fractures at low confining stress. These structures form an effective conduit for fluid flow in the field, but are difficult to model since they form in cohesive materials at low stresses.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

An analogue resistance model

open access: yesMathematical Modelling, 1987
AbstractIt is well-known that electrical currents in oil-transporting metal pipes cause corrosion of the pipe material by electrochemical activity. The problem of computing these currents is dependent upon knowing the effective resistance of the conducting pathway.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

On the use of 1g physical models for ground movements and soil-structure interaction problems

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, 2020
The paper focusses on the use of physical modelling in ground movements (induced by underground cavity collapse or mining/tunnelling) and associated soil-structure interaction issues.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

From thrust tectonics to diapirism. The role of evaporites in the kinematic evolution of the eastern South Pyrenean front

open access: yesGeologica Acta, 2003
The South Pyrenean foreland has a buried thrust front geometry where evaporitic levels are present at the subsurface and are suitable to be detachment horizons.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Design of digital-to-analogue signal converters for sensor microsystems on a crystal

open access: yesФізика і хімія твердого тіла
The results of computer simulation of the developed R-2R digital-to-analogue converter design are given. Results with output voltage values for different digital input code are also given.
