Flow forth

open access: yesFlow, 2021
The study of fluid flow has enabled milestones in technology and a deeper understanding of the natural world. Existing journals cover fundamental aspects of fluid mechanics very well and other journals target specific application fields.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Stress Intensity Factor of Mode III Cracks in Thin Sheets

open access: yes, 2010
The stress field at the tip of a crack of a thin plate of elastic material that is broken due to a mode III shear tearing has a universal form with a non-universal amplitude, known as the stress intensity factor, which depends on the crack length and the

Real-time flow measurement system: physics-informed reconstruction and sampling strategy

open access: yesFlow, 2023
In this work, we focus on a multi-hole pressure-probe-based flow measurement system for wind tunnel measurements that provides real-time feedback to a robot probe-manipulator, rendering the system autonomous. The system relies on a novel, computationally

Statistical mechanics in the context of special relativity. II. [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical review. E, Statistical, nonlinear, and soft matter physics, 2002
The special relativity laws emerge as one-parameter (light speed) generalizations of the corresponding laws of classical physics. These generalizations, imposed by the Lorentz transformations, affect both the definition of the various physical ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Dynamics of cavity structures and wall-pressure fluctuations associated with shedding mechanism in unsteady sheet/cloud cavitating flows

open access: yesFlow, 2023
The physics and mechanism of sheet/cloud cavitation in a convergent–divergent channel are investigated using synchronized dynamic surface pressure measurement and high-speed imaging in a water tunnel to probe the cavity shedding mechanism.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

On the integrability of the n-centre problem

open access: yes, 2004
It is known that for $n \geq 3$ centres and positive energies the $n$-centre problem of celestial mechanics leads to a flow with a strange repellor and positive topological entropy.

Relativity quantum mechanics with an application to Compton scattering

open access: yes, 1926
The new quantum mechanics, introduced by Heisenberg and since developed from different points of view by various authors, takes its simplest form if one assumes merely that the dynamical variables are numbers of a special type (called q-numbers to ...
