Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Van der Waals interactions: Corrections from radiation in fluids
We consider induced van der Waals interactions with corrections due to radiation in fluids consisting of polarizable hard spheres. The fluctuating polarizations are quantized while the positions of particles are treated classically.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Brief Introduction to Damage Mechanics and its Relation to Deformations [PDF]
We discuss some principle concepts of damage mechanics and outline a possibility to address the open question of the damage-to-deformation relation by suggesting a parameter identification setting.

Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Fluid coupling between the elements in a discrete model of cochlear mechanics [PDF]
When analysing the coupled mechanics of the cochlea, due to the interaction between fluid coupling and basilar membrane motion, it is convenient to divide the cochlea longitudinally into a discrete number of sections.

CFD prediction and experimental visualisation of cavitation and its erosion in hydraulic valves
This article presents an experimentally validated computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model for localising and quantifying cavitation erosion in oil hydraulic valves using large eddy simulation (LES) turbulence modelling and the cavitation erosion indices
