Proteasomal degradation of intracellularly expressed Amblyomin‐X limits suicide gene therapy potential in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Analytical continuation from imaginary to real chemical potential in 2-color QCD under scrutiny

open access: yes, 2006
The method of analytical continuation from imaginary to real chemical potential is tested in 2-color QCD. In comparison to previous studies in the same theory, an exact updating algorithm is used and simulations are performed closer to the ...

Generalized Maxwell equal area law and black holes in complex free energy

open access: yesPhysics Letters B
Maxwell equal area law is an important and traditional analytical tool in thermodynamic phase transition, especially in the calculation of gas-liquid phase transition, which reconciles the theoretical calculation with the experimental results ...

The skills required for transition to university and study in biological sciences: A student perspective

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...

Investigation on resonances for 3n and 4n systems using realistic nuclear interaction and inverse analytical continuation in the coupling constant method

open access: yesPhysics Letters B
Recently, resonance-like signals for 4n system were reported by M. Duer et al. (2022) [4]. Here the properties of 3n and 4n systems are further investigated, where their artificial bound states confined by external wells are studied with tensor-optimized

Identifying gene expression signatures for risk stratification of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy in colorectal cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A novel signature integrating genome‐wide analysis with clinical factors predicts recurrence in stage II colorectal cancer and enables a new risk stratification to guide postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. Clinical risk stratification for postoperative recurrence in patients with pathological stage II (pStage II) colorectal cancer (CRC) is essential ...

Density Model Creation Based on Separating Gravity Field by Depth

open access: yesRussian Journal of Earth Sciences
As a rule, it is known from a priori data that the studied field anomalies are caused by geological structures located at a certain depth below the day surface.

Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for
