Influencing factors analysis of anammox bacteria cultured by mixing denitrifying-anammox

open access: yesJournal of Hebei University of Science and Technology, 2017
In order to get the optimal growth conditions of anammox bacteria, the mature-cultured anammox granule sludge is used to investigate the influencing factors.

Hydrazine Synthase From Anammox Is Inhibited by Linear and Aromatic Alkynes. [PDF]

open access: yesEnviron Microbiol
Linear and aromatic alkynes inhibit anammox in culture and in wetlands. The inhibition by alkynes is specific to the hydrazine synthase, a key enzyme in the anammox pathway. ABSTRACT N2O emissions by nitrifiers are often estimated using selective inhibitors, such as 1‐alkynes.

Evaluating primers for profiling anaerobic ammonia oxidizing bacteria within freshwater environments. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Anaerobic ammonia oxidizing (anammox) bacteria play an important role in transforming ammonium to nitrogen gas and contribute to fixed nitrogen losses in freshwater environments.

Effect of Nitric Oxide on Anammox Bacteria [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 2010
ABSTRACT The effects of nitrogen oxides on anammox bacteria are not well known. Therefore, anammox bacteria were exposed to 3,500 ppm nitric oxide (NO) in the gas phase. The anammox bacteria were not inhibited by the high NO concentration but rather used it to oxidize additional ammonium to dinitrogen gas under conditions relevant to ...

Rapid cultivation of anammox sludge based on Ca-alginate cell beads

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 2022
Current gel entrapment technology has certain advantages for the enrichment of anammox sludge. In this study, the optimal preparation conditions and cultivation equipment of Ca-alginate cell beads for the culturing anammox sludge were proposed.

Microbial divergence and evolution. The case of anammox bacteria. [PDF]

open access: yesFront Microbiol
Species differentiation and the appearance of novel diversity on Earth is a major issue to understand the past and future of microbial evolution. Herein, we propose the analysis of a singular evolutive example, the case of microorganisms carrying out the process of anammox (anaerobic ammonium oxidation).

Comparative Genome-Centric Analysis of Freshwater and Marine ANAMMOX Cultures Suggests Functional Redundancy in Nitrogen Removal Processes

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
There is a lack of understanding of the interaction between anammox bacteria and the flanking microbial communities in both freshwater (non-saline) and marine (saline) ecosystems.

Nitrogen isotope effects induced by anammox bacteria [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2013
Significance Nitrogen is essential for all organisms and limits primary production in the ocean. It is mainly lost from low-oxygen environments by the activity of microorganisms that convert fixed nitrogen to N 2 gas.

The anammoxosome: an intracytoplasmic compartment in anammox bacteria [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 2004
Anammox bacteria belong to the phylum Planctomycetes and perform anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox); they oxidize ammonium with nitrite as the electron acceptor to yield dinitrogen gas. The anammox reaction takes place inside the anammoxosome: an intracytoplasmic compartment bounded by a single ladderane lipid-containing membrane.

Effects of biotin on promoting anammox bacterial activity

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) bacteria significantly improve the efficiency and reduce cost of nitrogen removal in wastewater treatment plants. However, their slow growth and vulnerable activity limit the application of anammox technology.
