Sixty-three esophageal anastomoses were performed on adult patients with esophageal or gastric cancer. A total of thirteen anastomotic leaks occurred, resulting in death in seven patients and serious morbidity in an additional patients. Twelve patients had esophagocolostomy, with five anastomotic leaks.
