Geometrically exact Cosserat rods with Kelvin–Voigt type viscous damping [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We present the derivation of a simple viscous damping model of Kelvin–Voigt type for geometrically exact Cosserat rods from three-dimensional continuum theory. Assuming moderate curvature of the rod in its reference configuration, strains remaining

Dynamics of Variable Stator Vane Adjustment Mechanism Considering the Flexibility of Linkage

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aerospace Engineering, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
The variable stator vane adjustment mechanism plays a vital role in preventing the occurrence of surge due to its complex multistage linkage mechanism. Initially, the flexible body is modeled using the absolute nodal coordinate formulation method, followed by the formulation of rigid–flexible coupled dynamics equations using the Lagrange equations of ...

Application‐Oriented Modeling of Soft Actuator Ionic Polymer–Metal Composites: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 6, Issue 3, March 2024.
From the perspective of model function, this article reviews the improvement process of three types models of ionic polymer–metal composite (IPMC) actuators and how can these models can promote IPMC applications. The applications of IPMC are also introduced.

Foam-Metal Liner Attenuation of Low-Speed Fan Noise [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A foam-metal liner for attenuation of fan noise was developed for and tested on a low speed fan. This type of liner represents a significant advance over traditional liners due to the possibility for placement in close proximity to the rotor.

Thermally activated delayed fluorescence carbazole‐triazine dendrimer with bulky substituents

open access: yesAggregate, Volume 5, Issue 1, February 2024.
New second‐generation carbazole‐triazine dendrimers were synthesized, and the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 81% in the neat film was achieved by substituting the bulky phenylfluorene group at the periphery. Fine‐tuning the locally excited state triplet energy was the key to achieving high PLQY owing to the high reverse intersystem crossing ...

Performance review of locking alleviation methods for continuum ANCF beam elements

open access: yesNonlinear dynamics, 2022
The absolute nodal coordinate formulation (ANCF) is a nonlinear finite element approach proposed for the large deformation dynamics analysis of beam- and plate/shell-type structures.

Steady Flow Over a Finite Patch of Submerged Flexible Vegetation

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 60, Issue 1, January 2024.
Abstract An immersed boundary‐finite element with soft‐body dynamics has been implemented to study steady flow over a finite patch of submerged flexible aquatic vegetation. The flow structure interaction model can resolve the flow interactions with flexible vegetation, and hence the reconfiguration of vegetation blades to ambient flow.

Dynamics Modelling and Simulation for Deployment Characteristics of Mesh Reflector Antennas

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
The dynamics of mesh reflectors are characterized by large deformation when antennas undergo a large motion in the deployment process. In this work, absolute node coordinate formulation (ANCF), with the merit of precise description of large deformation ...
