New host and distribution records for five species ofEnterogyrusPaperna, 1963 (Dactylogyridae: Ancyrocephalinae) from cichlid hosts in South Africa

African Journal of Aquatic Science, 2022
Between March 2015 and September 2016, three species of Cichlidae (Coptodon rendalli, Oreochromis mossambicus and Tilapia sparrmanii) were screened  for the presence of stomach monogeneans. Four localities across three provinces of South Africa (Limpopo, Northern Cape and North West) were  sampled and a total of five Enterogyrus species were ...

Salsuginus neotropicalis n. sp. (Monogenea: Ancyrocephalinae) from the pike killifish Belonesox belizanus (Atheriniformes: Poeciliidae) from southeastern Mexico

Systematic Parasitology, 2001
Salsuginus neotropicalis n. sp. is described from the gills of Belonesox belizanus (Kner), the pike killifish (Poeciliidae), from the southeastern Mexico. S. neotropicalis is distinguished from all other congeners by the morphology of the haptoral sclerites, especially by the presence of a ventral bar with notably enlarged ends, and by possessing ...

Phylogenetic relationships of the Dactylogyridae Bychowsky, 1933 (Monogenea: Dactylogyridea): the need for the systematic revision of the Ancyrocephalinae Bychowsky, 1937

Systematic Parasitology, 2003
Phylogenetic analyses based on partial 18S rDNA sequences of polyonchoinean monogeneans were conducted in order to investigate the relationships between selected families and subfamilies of the Dactylogyrinea, mainly within the Dactylogyridae. We tested the status of the Ancyrocephalidae sensu Bychowsky & Nagibina (1978) and the Ancyrocephalinae sensu ...

Ultrastructure of the surface structures and haptor of Empleurosoma pyriforme (Ancyrocephalinae; Monopisthocotylea: Monogenea) from the gills of the teleost fish Therapon jarbua

Parasitology Research, 2000
Infections with Empleurosoma pyriforme occur between successive secondary gill lamellae on both sides of the primary lamella of Therapon jarbua. The haptoral disc bears two pairs of anchors and a pair of connecting transverse bars. The attachment of the parasite to the host gill causes inflammation, erosion and degeneration of the gill epithelia.

POPULATION DYNAMICS OF PHILURETER TRIGONIOPSIS (MONOGENEA: ANCYROCEPHALINAE) FROM URINARY ORGANS OF GALAXIAS MACULATUS (OSMERIFORMES: GALAXIIDAE) IN A COLD TEMPERATE ANDEAN PATAGONIAN LAKE (ARGENTINA)

Journal of Parasitology, 2005
Philureter trigoniopsis parasitizes the ureters and urinary bladder of Galaxias maculatus in Patagonian Andean lakes. To investigate factors associated with variation in the prevalence and intensity of this monogenean, fish were sampled periodically over 2 yr in Lake Gutiérrez.
