Mutations affecting the N-terminal domains of SHANK3 point to different pathomechanisms in neurodevelopmental disorders

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Shank proteins are major scaffolds of the postsynaptic density of excitatory synapses. Mutations in SHANK genes are associated with autism and intellectual disability.

A Sensitive Plasma Insulin Immunoassay to Establish the Diagnosis of Congenital Hyperinsulinism

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2021
BackgroundThe diagnosis of congenital hyperinsulinism (CHI) may be hampered by a plasma (p-) insulin detection limit of 12–18 pmol/L (2–3 mU/L).ObjectiveTo evaluate the diagnostic performance of a sensitive insulin immunoassay and to find the optimal p ...

Gapless Superconductivity From Extremely Dilute Magnetic Disorder in 2H‐NbSe2‐xSx

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We demonstrate that 2H‐NbSe2‐xSx hosts gapless superconductivity at unexpectedly low magnetic impurity concentrations. Combining STM, Bogoliubovde Gennes simulations, DFT, and quasiparticle interference, we comprehensively study the development of gapless behavior and show that SeS substitution reshapes the band structure, enhances nesting, and drives ...

Flat Bands Induced by Non‐Collinear Antiferromagnetism in CoBi2Te4

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Flat bands emerge at the edges of intrinsically non‐collinear antiferromagnetic CoBi2Te4 two‐septuple layers through the interplay of spin–orbit coupling–driven band inversion and non‐collinear antiferromagnetism, uncovering a previously unexplored mechanism for flat‐band formation and opening new opportunities for strongly correlated quantum states ...

Prediction of Structural Stability of Layered Oxide Cathode Materials: Combination of Machine Learning and Ab Initio Thermodynamics

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
In this work, we developed a phase‐stability predictor by combining machine learning and ab initio thermodynamics approaches, and identified the key factors determining the favorable phase for a given composition. Specifically, a lower TM ionic potential, higher Na content, and higher mixing entropy favor the O3 phase.

Effects of Environmental and Health Information on Willingness to Pay for Local and Organic Foods in Taiwan

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Using a lab‐in‐the‐field experiment, we investigate how providing information about food miles and pesticide residue influences willingness to pay (WTP) for potatoes among 407 shoppers in Taiwan, split between a supermarket and a farmers market.

Harnessing Machine Learning to Understand and Design Disordered Solids

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
This review maps the dynamic evolution of machine learning in disordered solids, from structural representations to generative modeling. It explores how deep learning and model explainability transform property prediction into profound physical insight.

Awareness and use of a community health worker program among racial/ethnic minority adults in Philadelphia: Results from a cross‐sectional community health survey

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Community Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Community health workers (CHW) programs are effective at reducing hospitalizations, improving mental health, and supporting health‐promoting behaviors. Research suggests awareness and use of CHW services remain uneven across communities nationally.

Safety of antenatal breastmilk expression from week 34 of pregnancy: a randomized controlled pilot study (The Express-MOM study)

open access: yesMaternal Health, Neonatology and Perinatology
Background Mother’s own milk (MOM) is important as the first nutrition for preterm infants, but mothers often struggle to initiate milk production right after preterm birth.
