Using thermal death time models to analyze cold stress resistance across Drosophila species

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 40, Issue 8, Page 2363-2378, August 2026.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Chill susceptible insects such as Drosophila are vulnerable to progressive disruption of homeostasis during cold stress, and low‐temperature exposure is a key factor affecting their physiology and distribution.

Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy May Be an Independent Risk Marker for Dementia and Cerebrovascular Disease

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 28, Issue 8, Page 6618-6629, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Aims Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) may be linked to central nervous system changes. This study examined if DPN is associated with an increased risk of incident dementia and cerebrovascular disease in individuals with Type 1 (T1D) and Type 2 diabetes (T2D). Materials and Methods This register‐based cohort study (1998–2020) used data from

Range‐Wide Genetic Population Structure and Environmental Adaptation in the Eastern Oyster (Crassostrea virginica) Provides Insight for Aquaculture

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 35, Issue 15, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Selective breeding in aquaculture is necessary to establish food security and meet demand for sustainably produced protein. An informed selective breeding program requires understanding how population structure, environmental adaptation, and human activities shape natural genetic variation in wild conspecifics.

Polymorphic ventricular tachycardia with mutation in KCNJ2: case report

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine
Polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (VT), particularly in the absence of structural heart disease, has a strong genetic foundation primarily rooted in mutations affecting cardiac ion channels and associated regulatory proteins.

[Andersen syndrome. Description of a case] .

open access: yesNeurologia (Barcelona, Spain), 2001
A 17 year-old man, with periodic muscular weakness since the age of 6 years, is presented. The episodes of periodic paralysis were of variable duration, from 1 to 3 days, and were induced by physical exercise or by stress. Weakness was generalised, although predominant in anterior compartment of the legs, with foot drop.
