Physiology and Survival of Intertidal Calcifiers in Two Contrasting Upwelling Systems. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
This study evaluates the physiological responses and survival of two intertidal mollusk species, Chiton granosus and Scurria zebrina, across contrasting upwelling environments. We found that metabolic rates and survival differ between populations exposed to seasonal versus semi‐permanent upwelling.

Altered spatiotemporal brain dynamics of interoception in behavioural‐variant frontotemporal dementia [PDF]

open access: yesAlzheimers Dement
Abstract Background Dysfunctional allostatic‐interoception, altered processing of bodily signals in response to environmental demands, occurs in behavioural‐variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD) patients. Previous research, however, has focused on static measures of interoception (e.g., heart‐evoked potential, HEP).

Sex Differences in the Association Between Cardiovascular Factors and White Matter Hyperintensities in a Latin American Cohort [PDF]

open access: yesAlzheimers Dement
Abstract Background Dementia incidence and progression differ between men and women, with women showing increased vulnerability. Sex differences in cerebrovascular pathology may contribute to variations in neurodegenerative disease progression. White matter hyperintensities (WMH), a marker of small vessel disease, are influenced by cardiovascular ...

Cardiovascular risk factors and the allostatic interoceptive network in dementia [PDF]

open access: yesAlzheimers Dement
Abstract Background Cardiovascular risk factors, such diabetes, hypertension, blood pressure, obesity, and smoking, are linked with allostatic‐interoception – the continuous monitoring of internal bodily states in anticipation of environmental demands. These risk factors are associated with dementia risk.

Personalized AI Models for Accelerated Aging [PDF]

open access: yesAlzheimers Dement
Abstract Background The current understanding of brain aging and dementia diagnostics relies heavily on standardized data from homogeneous populations in the Global North, which creates challenges in assessing diverse populations. Critical gaps exist in understanding how geographical, socioeconomic, and demographic factors impact accelerated brain ...

Efficacy of a Multicomponent Intervention for Frailty or Physical Function in Prefrail or Frail Older Adults: FRAILMERIT Multicenter Clinical Trial. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Am Geriatr Soc
Clinical management of the older adult. ABSTRACT Objectives Frailty is a common condition in community‐dwelling older adults with high health and socioeconomic implications. However, primary care‐led randomized trials have been scarcely tested. Design Multicenter cluster randomized clinical trial.

Functional capacity in Peruvian people with Alzheimer's disease and frontotemporal dementia. [PDF]

open access: yesAlzheimers Dement
Abstract INTRODUCTION Functional impairment across degenerative dementias remains understudied in Latin American contexts. We aimed to assess total and item‐level functional performance, determine specific instrumental activities, and identify differences in functional profiles between groups.

Association of apolipoprotein E variants on Alzheimer's disease in Latin America: A systematic review and meta-analysis. [PDF]

open access: yesAlzheimers Dement
Abstract The apolipoprotein E (APOE) ε4 allele represents the strongest genetic risk factor for Alzheimer's disease (AD), but its role in genetically diverse Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) populations is underexplored. We conducted a meta‐analysis of 35 studies from 11 LAC countries, encompassing 3206 patients with AD and 5515 controls.
