Androgen insensitivity syndrome: Gonadal androgen receptor activity
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1984To determine whether abnormalities of the androgen receptor previously observed in skin fibroblasts from patients with androgen insensitivity syndrome also occur in the gonads of affected individuals, androgen receptor activity in the gonads of a patient with testicular feminization syndrome was investigated.

Androgens and androgen receptors in breast cancer
The Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2007Aromatase (CYP19) converts adrenal and ovarian androgens into estrogens, which supports the growth of estrogen-dependent breast cancers. Anti-aromatase agents are displacing antiestrogens as the first-line treatment for estrogen receptor positive breast cancers.

Androgen receptor polymorphism (CAG repeats) and androgenicity
Clinical Endocrinology, 2005SummaryObjective Polymorphism of the androgen receptor (AR) has been related to various pathophysiological conditions, such as osteoporosis and infertility. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the frequency of distribution in a normal Italian population and to assess CAG repeats (CAGr) in other conditions, such as hypoandrogenism ...

Androgen receptor mutations and androgen insensitivity
Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology, 2002The androgen receptor (AR) is a high affinity receptor protein encoded on the human X-chromosome that mediates the actions of androgens during development and in the adult. Defects in this receptor protein result in a wide range of abnormalities of male sexual development.

Combined androgen blockade (CAB), the addition of an antiandrogen to castration (medical or surgical), is becoming a well-established option for advanced prostate cancer. CAB with leuprolide and flutamide was found to improve both progression-free and overall survival, compared with leuprolide alone, particularly in patients with minimal metastatic ...

Androgens and Anti-androgen Therapy
Archives of Dermatology, 1984One's first thoughts about a book on androgens and antiandrogens would likely be that it would contain some reference to the skin and that much of the text would be devoted to discussions on hormones and their relevance to other organ systems. Actually, that is not the case here.
