On the importance of including both sexes in animal studies – insights from home‐cage monitoring
ABSTRACT A review of behavioural studies using home‐cage monitoring (HCM) systems revealed that over 61% of studies used only male subjects, with only 24% including both sexes, despite evidence of substantial behavioural differences between male and female animals. This bias could influence the outcomes of biomedical research.

SPINK1 upregulation is found in ~10–25% of prostate cancers. Here, they show that whilst SPINK1 is transcriptionally repressed by androgen receptor and its co-repressor REST, it is upregulated after androgen-deprivation therapy, which leads to ...

In the progression of docetaxel resistance, downregulation of FAM107A releases its transcriptional repression of TTK, leading to TTK upregulation. TTK enhances the interaction and phosphorylation of OPTN. This activates mitophagy in tumor cells, facilitates clearance of damaged mitochondria, reduces intracellular reactive oxygen species accumulation ...

Androgen receptor signaling induces hemorrhage and angiogenesis in the irradiated bladder
The underlying mechanism of radiation cystitis remains unknown, however, angiogenesis induced by hypoxia seems to be important because hyperbaric oxygen therapy which suppresses HIF-1 is clinically effective and significantly associated with androgen ...

Glycosylation is an Androgen-Regulated Process Essential for Prostate Cancer Cell Viability
Steroid androgen hormones play a key role in the progression and treatment of prostate cancer, with androgen deprivation therapy being the first-line treatment used to control cancer growth.

Abstract Background This study investigates the impact of disruptions in testosterone levels on bone remodeling, root resorption, and periodontal ligament (PDL) during orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) in a pubertal male rat model. Methods Testosterone deficiency was induced through orchiectomy, and the anabolic‐androgenic steroid (AAS, testosterone ...

Cardiovascular risk with androgen deprivation therapy
From the primary care perspective, many urologists and oncologists appear to be ignoring an FDA warning to assess patients' cardiovascular (CV) risk before instituting androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) with gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists.
