Phenobarbital-mediated tumor promotion in transgenic mice with humanized CAR and PXR [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The nuclear receptors CAR (constitutive androstane receptor) and possibly PXR (pregnane X receptor) mediate the hepatic effects of phenobarbital (PB) and similar-acting compounds.

Adiponectin Regulated by Indole‐3‐Acetic Acid in Paneth Cells Controls Renewal and Differentiation of Gut Stem Cells

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 39, Issue 19, 15 October 2025.
The adiponectin produced by Paneth cells suppresses intestinal stem cell renewal and differentiation by signaling through adiponectin receptor 1. This inhibitory effect is counterbalanced by gut microbiota‐derived indole‐3‐acetic acid, which activates the pregnane X receptor to downregulate adiponectin expression, consequently enhancing intestinal stem

Triclocarban mediates induction of xenobiotic metabolism through activation of the constitutive androstane receptor and the estrogen receptor alpha.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Triclocarban (3,4,4'-trichlorocarbanilide, TCC) is used as a broad-based antimicrobial agent that is commonly added to personal hygiene products. Because of its extensive use in the health care industry and resistance to degradation in sewage treatment ...

Sports Supplement Analysis Survey for the Prevalence of WADA Prohibited Substances in the Australian Online Marketplace

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, Volume 17, Issue 10, Page 1857-1864, October 2025.
A survey of 200 sports supplements purchased online in Australia and analysed for WADA Prohibited Substances. Athlete education regarding the use of sports supplements remains a high priority as 35% of the products contained WADA Prohibited Substances. ABSTRACT Sports supplements are used extensively by people involved in competitive sports. However, a

Regulation of CYP3A genes by glucocorticoids in human lung cells [v2; ref status: indexed, http://f1000r.es/1z6]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2013
Inhaled glucocorticoids are the first-line treatment for patients with persistent asthma.  However, approximately thirty percent of patients exhibit glucocorticoid insensitivity, which may involve excess metabolic clearance of the glucocorticoids by ...

Effects of Oestrogens and FSH on LH Stimulation of Steroid Production by Testis Leydig Cells from Immature Rats [PDF]

open access: yes, 1978
Hypophysectomy of immature male rats results after 5 days in a decreased production of testosterone by isolated testis Leydig cells in response to LH. The LH responsiveness of the Leydig cells can be partly restored by treatment of the hypophysectomized ...

3α,4β-Dihydroxy-5α-androstan-17-one

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section C Crystal Structure Communications, 1998
The ring conformation of the title compound, 3α,4β-di-hydroxy-5a-androstan-17-one, C 19 H 30 O 3 , is similar to that of the 5β-epimer except for the trans A/B ring junction and the geometry of ring D, which adopts a slightly deformed 13,14-half-chair conformation instead of the more common 14α-envelope conformation.

Metabolic Identification Based on Proposed Mass Fragmentation Pathways of the Anabolic Steroid Bolasterone by Gas Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, Volume 17, Issue 10, Page 1985-1995, October 2025.
The metabolism of bolasterone in liver microsomes and in urine samples of rats orally treated was evaluated due to no availability of its extensive metabolism studies. Its mono‐ and di‐hydroxylated metabolites were detected by GC‐EI‐MS/MS, and the fragmentation pathways of metabolites were suggested.

Neuroactive Steroids, Toll-like Receptors, and Neuroimmune Regulation: Insights into Their Impact on Neuropsychiatric Disorders

open access: yesLife
Pregnane neuroactive steroids, notably allopregnanolone and pregnenolone, exhibit efficacy in mitigating inflammatory signals triggered by toll-like receptor (TLR) activation, thus attenuating the production of inflammatory factors.

Thionation of Some α,β-Unsaturated Steroidal Ketones

open access: yesMolecules, 2010
The reactions of selected α,β-unsaturated steroidal ketones with Lawesson’s reagent (LR) in CH2Cl2 and toluene under the standard reaction conditions and with a combination of phosphorus pentasulfide with hexamethyldisiloxane (P4S10/HMDO) in 1,2 ...
