Earthquake slip surfaces identified by biomarker thermal maturity within the 2011 Tohoku-Oki earthquake fault zone. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Extreme slip at shallow depths on subduction zone faults is a primary contributor to tsunami generation by earthquakes. Improving earthquake and tsunami risk assessment requires understanding the material and structural conditions that favor earthquake ...

Constitutive androstane receptor 1 is constitutively bound to chromatin and ‘primed’ for transactivation in hepatocytes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The constitutive androstane receptor (CAR) is a xenobiotic sensor expressed in hepatocytes that activates genes involved in drug metabolism, lipid homeostasis, and cell proliferation.

17α-Ethynyl-5α-androstane-3α, 17β-diol Treatment of MNU-Induced Mammary Cancer in Rats

open access: yesInternational Journal of Breast Cancer, 2011
N-methyl-N-nitrosourea (MNU) induces estrogen-dependent mammary tumors in female Lewis rats. We explored the antineoplastic activity of a synthetic androstane derivative, 17α-ethynyl-5α-androstane-3α, 17β-diol (HE3235), as a single agent or in ...

Regulation of cytochrome P450 mRNA expression in primary porcine hepatocytes by selected secondary plant metabolites from chicory (Cichorium intybus L.) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Chicory (Cichorium intybus) has been shown to induce enzymes of pharmacokinetic relevance (cytochrome P450; CYP). The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of selected secondary plant metabolites with a global extract of chicory root, on the ...

Sesquiterpene lactones from shoot culture of Artemisia aucheri with cytotoxicity against prostate and breast cancer cells

open access: yesResearch in Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2019
Plant tissue culture is used to grow plant cells, tissues, or organs under sterile and determined conditions on culture media. It is alternative to traditional vegetative propagation, and is applied as an effective technology for the production of ...

A Comprehensive Evaluation of Steroid Metabolism in Women with Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) is a common liver disorder, mostly occurring in the third trimester. ICP is defined as an elevation of serum bile acids, typically accompanied by pruritus and elevated activities of liver aminotransferases. ICP

Structural and functional similarity of amphibian constitutive androstane receptor with mammalian pregnane X receptor.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
The nuclear receptors and xenosensors constitutive androstane receptor (CAR, NR1I3) and pregnane X receptor (PXR, NR1I2) induce the expression of xenobiotic metabolizing enzymes and transporters, which also affects various endobiotics.

Functional constraints on the constitutive androstane receptor inferred from human sequence variation and cross-species comparisons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Members of the NR1I subfamily of nuclear receptors play a role in the transcriptional activation of genes involved in drug metabolism and transport. NR1I3, the constitutive androstane receptor (CAR), mediates the induction of several genes involved in ...

The ALS‐associated E425K mutation uncouples DNAJC7 from the Hsp70 chaperone cycle

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
DNAJC7 is a J‐domain protein that plays a key role in protein quality control by regulating Hsp70 activity and preventing protein aggregation. We find that the ALS‐associated E425K mutation in DNAJC7 disrupts productive interaction and activation of Hsp70, thereby blocking the transfer and refolding of client proteins such as TDP‐43.

Pharmacokinetic Herb-Drug Interactions: Insight into Mechanisms and Consequences [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Herbal medicines are currently in high demand, and their popularity is steadily increasing. Because of their perceived effectiveness, fewer side effects and relatively low cost, they are being used for the management of numerous medical conditions ...
