Membrane Nanodomains Homeostasis During Propofol Anesthesia as Function of Dosage and Temperature [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Some anesthetics bind and potentiate gamma-aminobutyric-acid-type receptors, but no universal mechanism for general anesthesia is known. Furthermore, often encountered complications such as anesthesia induced amnesia are not understood. General anesthetics are hydrophobic molecules easily dissolving into lipid bilayers.

Depth of Anesthesia Determination by using Bispectral Index in Patients underwent Inhalation or Total Intravenous General Anesthesia

open access: yesمجله دانشکده پزشکی اصفهان, 2008
BACKGROUND: Bispectral index (BIS) is a new method for determination depth of anesthesia. In most of our operating rooms depth of anesthesia is measured according to clinical features; however, it has not enough accuracy.

Stabilizing membrane domains antagonizes n-alcohol anesthesia [PDF]

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, Volume 111, Issue 3, 9 August 2016, Pages 537-545, 2016
Diverse molecules induce general anesthesia with potency strongly correlated both with their hydrophobicity and their effects on certain ion channels. We recently observed that several n-alcohol anesthetics inhibit heterogeneity in plasma membrane derived vesicles by lowering the critical temperature ($T_c$) for phase separation.

Immobilization and Anesthesia of African lion (Panthera leo) 5 Cases [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Veterinary Surgery, 2007
Case Description- Five lions (one female and 4 male) were presented for diagnostic and surgical treatment (wound management, castration and radiography). Immobilization or anesthesia was necessary to complete the procedure.

Effect on thermoregulatory responses in patients undergoing a tympanoplasty in accordance to the anesthetic techniques during PEEP: a comparison between inhalation anesthesia with desflurane and TIVA [PDF]

open access: yesKorean Journal of Anesthesiology, 2014
BackgroundIt has been known that positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) increases the vasoconstriction threshold by baroreceptor unloading. We compared the effect on the thermoregulatory responses according to anesthetic techniques between an inhalation

Carbogen inhalation during Non-Convulsive Status Epilepticus: A quantitative analysis of EEG recordings [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Objective: To quantify the effect of inhaled 5% carbon-dioxide/95% oxygen on EEG recordings from patients in non-convulsive status epilepticus (NCSE). Methods: Five children of mixed aetiology in NCSE were given high flow of inhaled carbogen (5% carbon dioxide/95% oxygen) using a face mask for maximum 120s. EEG was recorded concurrently in all patients.

Quantification of depth of anesthesia by nonlinear time series analysis of brain electrical activity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We investigate several quantifiers of the electroencephalogram (EEG) signal with respect to their ability to indicate depth of anesthesia. For 17 patients anesthetized with Sevoflurane, three established measures (two spectral and one based on the bispectrum), as well as a phase space based nonlinear correlation index were computed from consecutive EEG

Effects of Propofol on Electrocardiogram Measures in Mice

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2014
.: We investigated the anesthetic effects of propofol on the electrocardiogram (ECG) in mice. We also compared the effects of isoflurane (2%) inhalation anesthesia, intraperitoneal propofol (50 or 100 mg/kg), and pentobarbital (50 mg/kg) on ECG in mice ...

An Adaptive Neuro-fuzzy Strategy in Closed-loop Control of Anesthesia [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
This paper proposes an adaptive neuro-fuzzy framework to improve drug infusion rate in closed-loop control of anesthesia. The proposed controller provides a sub-optimal propofol administration rate as input to reach the desired bispectral index, which is the output of the system, in both induction and maintenance phases.
