Angiogenesis and angiogenesis inhibitors in paediatric diseases

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Pediatrics, 1992
Angiogenesis, the generation of new capillaries from existing blood vessels, is rarely observed in the healthy organism, but can present during various paediatric diseases. In this review, we describe recent progress in the understanding of pathological angiogenesis and approaches for an improved therapy of angiogenic childhood diseases.

Contact-inhibited chemotaxis in de novo and sprouting blood-vessel growth [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology 2008, 4(9): e1000163, 2005
Blood vessels form either when dispersed endothelial cells (the cells lining the inner walls of fully-formed blood vessels) organize into a vessel network (vasculogenesis), or by sprouting or splitting of existing blood vessels (angiogenesis). Although they are closely related biologically, no current model explains both phenomena with a single ...

Vascular endothelial‐cadherin as a marker of endothelial injury in preclinical Alzheimer disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, Volume 9, Issue 12, Page 1926-1940, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Objective Endothelial dysfunction is an early and prevalent pathology in Alzheimer disease (AD). We here investigate the value of vascular endothelial‐cadherin (VEC) as a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) marker of endothelial injury in preclinical AD.

Metalloproteinases and their inhibitors in tumor angiogenesis [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, 2005
AbstractAngiogenesis is the process by which new blood vessels are formed from preexisting vasculature. It is an essential feature of the female reproductive cycle, embryonic development and wound repair. Angiogenesis has also been identified as a causal or contributing factor in several pathologies, including cancer, where it is a rate‐limiting step ...

In silico identification of potential natural product inhibitors of human proteases key to SARS-CoV-2 infection [PDF]

open access: yesMolecules 2020, 25(17), 3822, 2020
Presently, there are no approved drugs or vaccines to treat COVID-19 which has spread to over 200 countries and is responsible for over 3,65,000 deaths worldwide. Recent studies have shown that two human proteases, TMPRSS2 and cathepsin L, play a key role in host cell entry of SARS-CoV-2.

Oncolytic Virus Encoding a Master Pro-Inflammatory Cytokine Interleukin 12 in Cancer Immunotherapy

open access: yesCells, 2020
Oncolytic viruses (OVs) are genetically modified or naturally occurring viruses, which preferentially replicate in and kill cancer cells while sparing healthy cells, and induce anti-tumor immunity.

Irsogladine is a potent inhibitor of angiogenesis [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1993
We describe a novel inhibitor of angiogenesis, Irsogladine, an anti‐ulcer drug. Irsogladine inhibited plasminogen activator synthesis of, and tube formation by, human microvascular endothelial cells in type 1 collagen gel treated with an angiogenic growth factor, EGF.

Angelica Dahurica ethanolic extract improves impaired wound healing by activating angiogenesis in diabetes. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Abnormal angiogenesis plays an important role in impaired wound healing and development of chronic wounds in diabetes mellitus. Angelica dahurica radix is a common traditional Chinese medicine with wide spectrum medicinal effects.

Acetylcholinesterase inhibitors attenuate angiogenesis [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Science, 2012
Donepezil {(RS)-2-[(1-benzyl-4-piperidyl)methyl]-5,6-dimethoxy-2,3-dihydroinden-1-one} is a reversible acetylcholinesterase inhibitor and used for treatment of patients with AD (Alzheimer's disease). Recent studies showed that treatment with donepezil reduced production of inflammatory cytokines in PBMCs (peripheral blood mononuclear cells).
