Protecting glomerulus: role of angiotensin-II type 2 receptor
Clinical Science, 2022Abstract Podocyte injury due to either drug, toxin, infection, or metabolic abnormality is a great concern as it increases the risk of developing focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and proteinuric kidney diseases. The direct podocyte injury due to doxorubicin is associated with an increase in proinflammatory cytokines and ...

Vascular angiotensin II actions mediated by angiotensin II type 2 receptors
Current Hypertension Reports, 2004Angiotensin II (Ang II) is the major effector peptide of the renin-angiotensin system and acts at two major receptors known as Ang II type 1 receptor (AT(1)R) and Ang II type 2 receptor (AT(2)R). Increasingly, there is evidence suggesting that the AT(2)R counter-regulates the excitatory effects of AT(1)R stimulation.

Is the angiotensin ii type 2 receptor cerebroprotective?
Current Hypertension Reports, 2004Most of the deleterious effects of angiotensin II (Ang II) on blood pressure (BP), cardiovascular remodeling, and atherosclerosis are mediated by Ang II type 1 (AT1)-receptor activation. This explains why Ang-II-decreasing or blocking drugs have been successful in decreasing global cardiovascular morbimortality in patients with cardiac complications ...

Peripheral neuropathy is the major dose-limiting side effect of many currently used chemotherapies, such as vincristine (VCR). We recently demonstrated that candesartan, an angiotensin II type 1 receptor antagonist, was neuroprotective against ...

Angiotensin II type 2 receptors: signalling and pathophysiological role
Current Opinion in Nephrology and Hypertension, 2001The signalling mechanisms and biological significance of the angiotensin II type 2 receptor have long been unknown. In recent years, studies, first in cell culture models but now increasingly also in vivo, have shed some light on the molecular events occurring after a stimulation of the receptor with its ligand as well as on its physiological effects ...

This study was designed to demonstrate that the principle of molecular recognition underlying high-affinity binding of angiotensin II to the type 2 (AT2) receptor is distinct from that of the type 1 (AT1) receptor. In general, the same functional pharmacophores in hormones are used to bind and activate different subtypes of cell surface receptors ...

Gene Polymorphism of Angiotensin II Type 1 and Type 2 Receptors
Current Pharmaceutical Design, 2013Renin-angiotensin system (RAS) plays a key role in pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease and in the responsiveness for various types of medications. A large number of genetic investigations have been carried out to examine the association between gene variants of RAS and predisposition to cardiovascular diseases, such as hypertension, coronary artery ...

Angiotensin II Type 1 and Type 2 Receptor-induced Cell Signaling
Current Pharmaceutical Design, 2013The octapeptide angiotensin II (Ang II) plays a homeostatic role in the regulation of blood pressure and water and electrolyte balance, and also contributes to the progression of cardiovascular remodeling. Ang II activates Ang II type 1 (AT1) receptor and type 2 (AT2) receptor, both of which belong to the seven-transmembrane, G protein-coupled receptor

Transcription of the Rat Angiotensin II Type 2 Receptor Gene
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1996The promoter region of the rat angiotensin II type 2 receptor gene was cloned and the nucleotide sequences were determined. A computer homology search for a 1.2 Kb promoter region showed that there are several consensus cis DNA elements such as C/EBP, NF-IL6, GRE and AP1 in this region.
