A Comprehensive Review of Additive Manufacturing for Space Applications: Materials, Advances, Challenges, and Future Directions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing (AM) transforms space hardware by enabling lightweight, high‐performance, and on‐demand production. This review outlines AM processes—powder bed fusion (PBF), directed energy deposition (DED), binder jetting (BJ), sheet lamination (SL), and material extrusion (ME)—applied to propulsion, satellite structures, and thermal devices ...

Large Area, Cost‐Effective, and Ultra‐Fast Fabrication of Mini‐Coils Toward Noninvasive Magnetic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A simple, cleanroom‐free method produces flexible mini‐coils using automated blade cutting. The process is fast, low‐cost, and supports diverse materials. The coils show strong durability and performance under repeated bending. Demonstrated use in resistor‐inductor filters and magnetic nanoparticle control proves their adaptability.

Design of Multiphase Compositionally Complex Alloys for Enhanced Hardness at Elevated Temperatures and Machinability: Comparative Study with Inconel 718

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study compares the mechanical properties of Inconel 718 with two newly developed compositionally complex alloys (CCAs). Inco‐like‐H alloy demonstrates significantly improved wear resistance, surface finish, and hardness, notably at high temperatures. This CCA requires no heat treatment and is well suited for additive manufacturing. Its performance

Optimizing Laser Ablation of Stainless Steels for Volume Removal and Surface Quality Using Burst of Pulses

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the ablation efficiency and surface quality of laser‐treated stainless steel alloys (AISI 304, AISI 420, and AISI 316Ti) using an ultrashort pulsed laser and varying burst parameters (MHz, GHz, and Bi‐burst). Both ablation rates and surface quality parameters are determined, including isotropy surface roughness values, highlighting ...
